Holiday Party Style Guide

by , in
Finding the right look for a holiday party can be tricky, especially when there are holiday parties for multiple occasions. Work parties, family parties, friend parties, etc, you wouldn't wear the same exact outfit to all of these parties. Because each party has its own atmosphere and vibe.

If you're struggling to find something to wear the holiday party season, have no fear. Follow this guide to gain some outfit inspiration.

If you've been invited to a holiday Cocktail Party, this can always be the trickiest one to dress right for. Typically, cocktail parties are on the fancier side. So think of dresses or dress pants if that's your style. Whenever I think of a cocktail party, I think of those sparkly dresses that extra girls love to wear for New Years or their 21st birthday. But that's not what you should wear to a holiday cocktail party, unless it's red or green of course. But if you want something a little more simple, a little black dress (LBD) is always a timeless option. You can always dress it up and make it festive with jewelry and makeup. If dresses aren't your style, no worries. Take a nice pair of dress pants and pair it with a nice top and a blazer and you're good to go.

For the working gals out there odds are your job is going to have some sort of Office Soiree. Now if you don't work at some fancy office, don't sweat. Odds are your job will have some sort of company party or luncheon. For this, you're going to want to be festive yet professional at the same time. There's so many ways you could go. If you value comfort over trendiness, take a festive top or sweater and dress it up with some dress pants. If a sweater is your style, maybe add a collared shirt underneath to give it the preppy look. My favorite go to look is the cropped sweater and skater skirt with some tights, which I actually wore to my work's holiday party this year. If you want to be trendy and festive, look for red or green dresses. Remember to keep it simple and professional!

What does one wear to an Ugly Sweater Party? Hmmmm. Maybe an ugly sweater? Kind of obvious right? With the popularity of ugly sweaters, the options have become infinite. Not only do they make super festive sweaters that even light up, there's literally a sweater for every type of person. You can find Christmas sweaters with animals on them, funny pop culture references and even sweaters for your favorite movies and TV shows. The saying is true, you can really find anything on the internet.

If you're getting together with your group of friends for a Holiday Hang, this might be the easiest party to dress for. When you're with your friends, you're comfortable. There's really no need to overdress yourself. But you do want to make sure your look is Instagram ready. Did you really go to a holiday party if there's no post on Instagram? Smart casual is the best way to go for any sort of party with friends, unless a dress code is stated otherwise. Jeans, a cute sweater or flannel, and maybe a scarf would do the trick. If you want to be a little dressier, try a skirt with a sweater or even a nice sweater dress or casual dress. Since this is a more causal event, there's no need to go all out, unless you and your friends are that extra.

Last but certainly not least, we have the Family Party. 99% of us will most likely spend some time at some sort of family function this holiday season. Take into consideration how your family operates, are they super casual? Or is every family party like a fancy gala? Depending on the mood of your family that's how you should dress. If your family is a jean and sweater type, then stick to jeans and your favorite Christmas sweater? Or does everyone wear the best formal wear? Well good think you have that red holiday gown. No matter what remember to keep it classy and festive. Target currently has festive printed dresses which would be perfect for any family occasion.

No matter what you wear, you're going to have a great time. As long as you're with your friends, family and loved ones, it will be a great occasion. What is your go to fashion look for a holiday party? Let me know!

Until tomorrow.

LOFT Winter Shopping Haul

by , in
Sometimes during the holiday season, you just need to treat yourself. Most likely, there will be amazing sales anywhere you go! It's going to be really tempting, so if you find something you like for a great price why miss out? Nothing is worse than feeling like you missed out, especially if it's something you've been eyeing for quite some time. Plus we all have that one store that always has something we want or need. For me, that store is LOFT.

For those of you that do not know about LOFT, it is a magical and heavenly store that sells clothes and accessories that you can wear at home or even at your workplace. Basically, they have all kinds of wonderful things! LOFT is part of the Ann Taylor family, however it is the lower-priced and more casual young sister of Ann Taylor. Basically, LOFT is a store for the stylish and professional fashionista.

But anyways, the real reason why I got to do a little shopping at LOFT was because my Mom got some LOFT cash when she went shopping there last month. To simplify it, LOFT cash is basically a coupon rebate. Sometimes LOFT will have different weeks throughout the year where they will give out LOFT cash. Most of the time, you have to spend $50 to get $25 LOFT cash. Normally you get almost a month to earn these coupon rebates and then once that earning period is over you have a week to spend whatever LOFT cash you earned. So anyways, my Mom went shopping during the earning week and was kind enough to let me use her LOFT cash during the redeem period. So here are a few of the things I got:

Right now, flannel and plaid anything is all the rage. Which makes sense, because the print is cute and most of the time it will keep you warm. So at LOFT, I purchased two plaid items: a plaid infinity scarf, which is pictured, and a lightweight plaid tunic which sadly is not pictured.

The plaid infinity scarf is literally the warmest and softest scarf I have ever touched. It's so comfortable and easy to wear. Plus, what's really cool about this scarf is that it has a different print on each side of the fabric. The front is a blue and green plaid while the back is a black and white houndstooth. So it's basically a reversible scarf! You can mix and match the patterns and surprisingly they go well together, they do not clash one bit. The plaid tunic is a thin long sleeve shirt. The shirt is a lightweight blouse with 3/4 sleeves and is a little on the long side.

The last shirt is a black sleeveless peplum top. In the picture it looks brown but it is definitely black. This shirt is on the short side because it is a petite top. One of the great things about LOFT is that they do sell petite clothing, so to my fellow short people you can find great quality and reasonably priced clothing that does fit true to size.

Last but certainly not least, I got the one item I was lusting over. That's right. It's a unicorn sweater. They physically did not carry it in the store closet to me. So I had to order it online. I'm always a sucker for a good sweater. But what is the real selling point is the unicorn, aka the greatest animal of all time. The sweater fits well and while also being really comfortable and cozy.

LOFT is one of my favorite stores and whenever I go there, I have no problem finding something I like. All their clothes and accessories are great quality and are worth the price you pay. Check out their website, most of their winter items, like sweaters, outerwear, and accessories are 50% off! Now, you tell me, what is your go to clothing store? Or what store can you always find something you either really want or need?

Get out there and treat yourself!

Until tomorrow.

The History Behind the Ugly Christmas Sweater

by , in

The biggest holiday fashion trend worldwide is the Ugly Christmas Sweater. Now why would someone want to wear an ugly sweater? Well the truth is, the more popular these sweaters become some of these sweaters actually become very cute and stylish.

Now when I was growing up, the Ugly Christmas Sweater was not trendy. They were so unpopular, no one in my close circles ever talked about them, So to me, they didn't exist. However, within the past couple years these sweaters have become the must have holiday fashion item. My question is, where did the popularity come from? We'll let's take a look at the history behind the Ugly Christmas Sweater trend.

Well first we need to be able to identify an Ugly Christmas Sweater. Here on the right you'll see the sweater I've been lusting over at Target. Obviously an Ugly Christmas Sweater has Christmas colors and elements on it, like a tree, snowmen or Santa.

In the United States, these sweaters have been around since the late 1800s. The first time these ugly sweaters were mass manufactured they were known as Jingle Bell Sweaters.

We all know Bill Cosby wore all his funky sweaters on the Cosby Show in the 90s. Thanks to that, he is considered to be the ugly sweater pioneer. But growing up in the 90s, I never noticed anyone really fawning over these sweaters and I don't recall seeing them in stores. Not like we do today, so how did they become so popular today?

Well the popularity behind the Ugly Christmas Sweater today is all thanks to the increase of ugly sweater parties. The first ugly sweater party was thrown in Vancouver in the early 2000s, and after that it became an annual event. Then the parties branched out all around the world. And then when hipsters started to attend these parties they wanted to dress their part. They got their ugly sweaters at stores like Goodwill and other thrift shops. Since they were the only place you can find these sweaters. The market wasn't booming yet, but that certainly changed.

But once there was an increase in these ugly sweater parties, more people wanted these sweaters. So the retailers got in on this trend, and now you can find these sweaters all over, from Target to Nordstrom, there's an ugly sweater available for anyone.

So there's a little brief history lesson behind the Ugly Christmas Sweater, it's all quite fascinating don't you think? I certainly learned something new, and I hope you did too. Until tomorrow.

Style Guide: Baseball Fashion

by , in
In today's culture, sports play a big role. The Super Bowl is treated like a national holiday, people go crazy over the World Cup and the Olympics, and even baseball is America's Pastime. The world we live in puts a huge emphasis on sports and it seems like everyone has a team in at least one sport. And as attraction, people attend sporting events all the time. So how does one combine fashion with sports? Have no fear, If you've never been to any kind of sporting event in your life, here's a little guide of what to wear and still look fashionable!
When you go to a game, the most important thing is to be comfortable in what you're wearing. If you're not comfortable you won't have a good time. If you're a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl then do it. Jeans are great to wear for night games because it can get chilly. If you have a team you love, you got to represent, if not then try a t-shirt that matches your team's colors. For example, the Angels' main color is red, so a red t-shirt and jeans would work nicely. If you have a hat that reps your team, why not pair it with your t-shirt and jeans? For shoes, sneakers or sandals are always the best choice. Heels are not recommended to wear to a game, simply because the stairs are steep and you could become face to face with the ground just trying to get around. Jeans, t-shirts, and sandals/sneakers is the most common look you'll find at a baseball game. Which makes complete sense, because it is comfortable! You won't have to worry if you spill something or if someone spills something on you, because it won't need to be dry cleaned and silly little spill won't ruin or destroy your outfit.
If you have a favorite player on a team and you don't have the money to buy a jersey, you can always purchase a "shirtsey". Player jerseys are expensive they can range from $80-$300 depending on which type you get. So a great affordable option is to get the shirtsey which is a t-shirt with the name and number of a player on the back. So basically, it is the t-shirt form of a jersey, which has been dubbed a shirtsey, clever right? These cost under $50 and are an affordable alternative to a jersey. Plus they look just as cute and are easier to maintain! Since jerseys are so expensive you have to treat them with care. Shirts like these are sold at the your team's Team Store, which are located at the stadium, but you can also get them online from the MLB store. On the MLB store, they have the option to pick anyone on the roster, so if your favorite player isn't super popular and his shirtsey isn't available at the Team Store, you can always get it online! Also at the MLB store you could also get a personalized version and even put your name or anyone's name on the shirt.

Speaking of jerseys, if you're lucky enough to own one, here's a simple way to wear it. Obviously paired with jeans and sneakers. Underneath the jersey, it's best to wear a loose t-shirt or preferably a tank top. You can leave the jersey unbuttoned or button it up. If you have a men's size jersey, they tend to be a little long and look better opened up. If you have a women's jersey those are not as long and look best buttoned up. If you want people to see the name of the player on your jersey tie your hair up in a pony tail, braid, bun, pig tails, whatever your style is and add a ribbon and tie it in a bow. For ribbon you can do solid colors that reflects your team or you can go to your local craft store and find ribbon with your team's logo or name on it!

On those hot summer days or nights, it can be unbearable to wear pants. So the simple jean shorts and t-shirt is your cool option for the jeans and t-shirt look. Paired with the shorts is a gray shirt, and gray shirts are best to wear when your team is the opposing team. In baseball, the colors of the team uniforms mean a lot. This is because the home team gets to wear white while the opposing team wears gray. However, sometimes you'll see players wearing white or gray pants with their other colored shirt. Well this is because the pitcher playing that day gets to decide what color jerseys the rest of the team wears. There's a little fun fact for you. Although with this gray shirt, it is a special shirt and it is worn often to the stadium. This is because it is a play off shirt, meaning that this is the shirt they sold when the Angels won the American League West Division last year. So because the Angels were the AL West champions last year, you'll see this gray shirt worn a lot at Angel Stadium.

If you want to pair your jersey with a pair of shorts go for it! Why not? It can be done! On those hot summer days, no one wants to wear jeans, and of course if you paid a lot money for your jersey! Don't you want to get your money's worth, especially if it's one of those $300 replica jerseys? Of course! Wear a tank top underneath, keep the jersey buttoned or unbuttoned. If you keep it unbuttoned it will be a little more breezy and comfortable and cool! If you want to make this outfit a little more girly and don't feel like tying your hair up and adding a ribbon, add a headband instead! When in doubt, girl it up with a flower crown, for a music festival meets sporting event look.

If you're not into the whole jeans and t-shirts and jerseys look, have no fear, there's plenty of other options out there. One of my personal favorites is the t-shirt and skirt look. Take one of your favorite team shirts and pair it with a skirt! Plain or patterned it doesn't matter! If you're using a patterned skirt pair the shirt and skirt carefully because not all patterns and colors pair well. Find a patterned skirt that contains your team's color in it and match it with a team shirt. This outfit shows that you are a fan with a great style. It's a fun and perfect look for summer and it's also very comfortable to wear at a game, especially if it is a sunny afternoon game.
Now if you don't want to wear a t-shirt, jeans, shorts, skirts, jersey or anything else mentioned above how about a fun romper? A romper would be great for a sunny afternoon game. Rompers are fun summer outfits that are comfy and cozy, and are only a pain when you have to go to the bathroom. But they're cute and fashionable, so that's why we wear them. If you want to show your support for your team pair it with a baseball hat! Since not everyone is comfortable in hat, they're not everyone's cup of tea, so if you want to still represent your team at the game, put your hair up in whatever style suits you best and add ribbon for a bow.

And there you have it, my little style guide and look book on what to wear for a baseball game. These styles can also be used for any other sporting event if you're not interested in baseball or simply just love another sport more. Thanks for reading and shout out to my best friend Jorge for helping me with this project, he gets all the photographer credit on these photos and please check out his blog and Youtube!
