Saying Goodbye to ipsy

by , in
For the past two years, I've been unboxing and critiquing the Glam Bags I receive from ipsy. I've accumulated all different kinds of beauty products. But this past November, I decided it was time to unsubscribe from ipsy.

Why did I choose to unsubscribe from ipsy? Well over the past two years, I've gathered a bunch of different beauty products. Some that I absolutely fell in love with, but a majority of the other products were just mediocre. I would get a lot of the same items and brands all the time. But it was not the "higher end" brands that I wanted to try, instead I mainly got obscure unheard of brands. There were some great unheard of brands that I tried, the only bad part about that was that I could not purchase those items again because those brands were never sold at any of the stores I frequent. But enough about that, here are the final reviews for September and October.

First we have the September Glam Bag, which was a "Glamazon" theme. What is a Glamazon? Well the best definition I could find on Urban Dictionary describes a Glamazon as a woman with an overdeveloped sense of beauty, glamour, and fashion.

So based off this name and theme, this bag should be a total knockout. Let's start with the bag itself, it's super cute and very girly! The color scheme works well together and the print is adorable. It definitely gives of a chic and trendy feel.

So let's get to the good stuff! Inside this Glam Bag were the following products:

  • Pixi by Petra Mattelustre Lipstick in Rose Naturelle
  • Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask
  • ulta3 Nail Colour in Sizzling Red
  • IT Cosmetics Superhero™ Mascara in Super Black
  • tre'StiQue Mini Highlight Stick in Maldives Luminescent
The Pixi by Petra Mattelustre Lipstick in Rose Naturelle is a dark nude shade that pairs really well with any pink lip liner. The lipstick is matte but not a very good one, it does not last as long as a matte should. The one thing I really dislike about this lipstick is the weird aftertaste it leaves on your lips. If you're going to eat anything take this lipstick off before you eat because you will get a really bitter taste in your mouth.

I always love trying new hair products, especially any kind of deep conditioner, so I was excited to test out the Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask. When I washed my hair I used a generous amount of this deep conditioner and overall I was very impressed! It softens your hair and makes it shinier while getting rid of any tangles! Score!!

When it comes to nail polish, I seem to have the worst luck. I'm really bad/lazy when it comes to painting my nails but I'm getting better with time. The ulta3 Nail Colour in Sizzling Red is a bold color that goes on bright red. The color is almost like a fire truck red shade. The nail polish applies very easily which is nice, the only downside is that the nail polish will stain your skin so be very careful! I had pink fingers for a decent amount of time. This nail polish lasts for a short amount of time. Depending on how active you are you could chip the nail polish within the first couple of days.

I was so excited to see the IT Cosmetics Superhero™ Mascara in Super Black, I've been dying to try this mascara! I heard so many good things about it, so when I tried it I was happy to see it lived up to the hype. The mascara itself is creamy but it does not smudge despite the creaminess. It gives your lashes plenty of volume and adds the perfect amount of length to them. Best mascara ever!

Last but certainly not least, there is the tre'StiQue Mini Highlight Stick in Maldives Luminescent. What I really love about this highlighter is that it is a creamy crayon that goes on very smoothly. Sometimes it is hard to find a really good shade for a highlighter but this shade was almost iridescent, it adds such a nice and natural shine to your face. This is probably the best highlighter I have ever received from ipsy!

Overall, I'd give the September Glam Bag 4/5 stars. I was really impressed with a majority of these products. My hit for this month would be the IT Cosmetics Superhero™ Mascara in Super Black, while my miss for this month would be the Pixi by Petra Mattelustre Lipstick in Rose Naturelle. But now onto the October Glam Bag!

Now we've come to the last Glam Bag I will ever critique, this is a real bittersweet moment. The Glam Bag itself is super cute, it was obviously a Halloween theme. The print of the witches was super cute and it went well with the theme. If you notice, I received some additional products in this Glam Bag. That is because I had enough points to redeem not one but two additional samples with my ipsy points.

Inside this Glam Bag were the following products:

  • theBalm Cosmetics CabanaBoy Blush
  • Ciaté London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner
  • Trust Fund Beauty Gimme Good Face - Face Primer
  • MeMeMe Blush Brush
  • Ziaja Natural Olive Cream Light Formula
  • Luxie Rose Gold Tapered Highlighting Brush
  • Nudestix Mini Lip + Cheek Pencil in Mystic

I always get so excited whenever I see anything theBalm, it's one of my favorite brands! So I was stoked to see the theBalm Cosmetics CabanaBoy Blush in my Glam Bag! I absolutely adore the shade, it is the perfect color for a nice natural blush tone while also giving your face a nice glow. What I also love about this blush is that it can also be used as an eyeshadow.

I've been on the hunt for a new liquid eyeliner for quite some time now, but I think I can finally conclude my journey. The Ciaté London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner is everything I have ever dreamed of for an eyeliner. This eyeliner goes on so smoothly and so precise. Even with my shaking hands, my eyeliner was done in one try. With other eyeliners, I would need to start over at least twice. It also does not smudge and it is long lasting.

The Trust Fund Beauty Gimme Good Face - Face Primer is a decent face primer with some texture issues. When you first put it on, it becomes really flakey but once you spread it around your face it starts to get really gooey and soft. It is a weird sensation but somehow it ends up making your face really soft. But from there is does an okay job keeping your makeup looking fresh. After a couple of hours you can't really tell that you were ever wearing makeup.

One of my favorite things to receive in a Glam Bag are makeup brushes! So when I saw the MeMeMe Blush Brush I was excited. What I really like about this brush is that it can be used for any kind of powder. It is a soft brush that applies powder very well and it does not go on too dark, It distributes the powder evenly. You can't go wrong with a nice soft brush that apples well!

The last sample that ipsy chose for me was the Ziaja Natural Olive Cream Light Formula. What's really great about this moisturizer is that is is soothing on your face and it really softens it. The only downside of this moisturizer is that it has a really thick texture and a very generic smell.

The first sample I chose to redeem with my points was the Luxie Rose Gold Tapered Highlighting Brush. Honestly, I picked this brush because it was pretty and because it was a makeup brush, I needed to stock up! It is 100% vegan friendly and works best as a highlighter brush. The brush itself is super soft and it applies very lightly but overall very well.

The last sample I chose to redeem with my points was the Nudestix Mini Lip + Cheek Pencil in Mystic. ipsy has been giving out Nudestix samples for the longest time and I was never lucky enough to get one, so when I saw that one was available to redeem for points I jumped at the opportunity. The shade of the pencil is a nice nude pink that pairs well with any lipstick shade. What is also so great about this pencil is that it is long lasting and it can also be used for your cheeks and not just your lips!

For my final Glam Bag, I'd say it went out with a bang, I'd give it 4/5 stars. The big hit in this Glam Bag was the Ciaté London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner while the miss was the Trust Fund Beauty Gimme Good Face - Face Primer. Both of my samples were a 5/5, they were everything I hoped and dreamed they would be!

Overall I will miss ipsy, it will be sad to not get one of those pink packages in the mail every month. But who knows, maybe something bigger and better is on the way.

Until tomorrow.

ipsy Glam Bag Double Header: End of Summer Edition

by , in
Lately, time just seems to be flying by! Summer is coming to an end, and school has started once again. Even the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks! Is it just me or did this summer go by way too fast?

I fell behind on my Glam Bag reviews, so here you have a double header. For those of you who do not know what that means, it is a sports term where teams will play two games in one day. So let's get started with the July Glam Bag!

Well lucky for us, the July Glam Bag from ipsy was designed with summer in mind. Hence why the theme of the Glam Bag was called Hot Summer Nights. Inside this Glam Bag were the following products:

  • Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in No Filter
  • Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer
  • Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask
  • VASANTI COSMETICS Professional Eyeshadow Brush
  • skyn ICELAND The ANTIDOTE Cooling Daily Lotion
The Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in No Filter is a very light pink/purple shade. The color is gorgeous, but it was too light and bland for my taste. Once I wore the color for a little bit, I got used to the shade. There is nothing special about the applicator or formula. In all honesty, it would get clumpy and hard to paint with sometimes. But at least the polish lasted on my nails for a decent amount of time.

Primer is always a must needed product, especially in the summer. You wouldn't want your hard work to melt off your face right? The Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer helps your makeup stay fresh and stay on longer. However, it will feel rough and almost like it is drying out your skin. But that is not the case at all, your skin will feel a lot softer after the little bit of discomfort.

Whenever I need to destress and relax, I like to take a bubble bath and put on a face mask. I was excited to try the Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask. In all honesty, the packaging for this mask is terrible. It is a pain to open and you have to cut off a big portion of the tip in order to use the product. But besides that, this mask is amazing. It has a nice smell and it absorbs into your skin so there is less to wash off when you're all done. What I really love about this mask is there is no major time limit! You can wear it for five minutes for a quick exfoliation, or you can wear it for thirty minutes for a deep detox! Also make sure you wear sunscreen after wearing this mask because the ingredients in the mask will make your skin more sensitive.

The VASANTI COSMETICS Professional Eyeshadow Brush is a super soft brush. It does apply your eyeshadow very nicely, it's not too dark and not too light. This brush is super thick and also very stiff. This brush is also versatile. It can be used while it is wet and it will intensify your eyeshadow. It can also be used as a concealer brush! Multipurpose brushes are always the best.

One thing you always need is a good face moisturizer. The skyn ICELAND The ANTIDOTE Cooling Daily Lotion will soften your face but there is real strong odor that comes with it. This lotion is also supposed to cool your face, but for those of you with sensitive skin like myself, it will burn. But it was not a bad burn, it burned in a good way. I know it does not really make sense, but the burning sensation did not hurt too bad, it just caused a little discomfort. After the discomfort your face will feel a little bit softer.

Overall I'd give the July Glam Bag 3.5 stars out of 5, just another average batch of beauty products. Nothing amazing, but nothing terrible. Well unless you count the makeup bag itself, it was pretty ugly. Other than that there's nothing really to complain about. Now let's check out the August Glam Bag!

The August Glam Bag was all about indulgence, whether it be with sweets, snacks, or even makeup. The theme of this bag was called "Sugar Highness" which in all honestly came off pretty juvenile and geared towards a younger demographic. Even the print on the bag itself screams junior.

There could have been a lot done with this theme to make it more mature. Like maybe a Treat Yo' Self bag. But instead we got this knock off Alice in Wonderland theme. If they really wanted it to make it a tea party theme it could have been done in a much more regal and elegant way. Honestly sometimes you have to question the creative directors' taste when it comes down to it. But let's look past all that and get to the good stuff: the products!! Inside the August Glam Bag were the following products:

  • IT Hair Care 12-In-One Amazing Leave-In Treatment
  • Beaute Basics 3 Tone Bronzer
  • Benefit Cosmetics New Gimme Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel
  • Beau Gachis Paris Pro Series Applicator Sponge
  • Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Neapolitan Palette

The first item that you could not miss, since it was the biggest product, was the IT Hair Care 12-In-One Amazing Leave-In Treatment. This hair treatment can treat your hair in twelve different ways. It can control frizz, tangles and brittle ends. It can add body and shine, and even make your hair healthier. It also repairs dry and damaged hair. It will protect color-treated hair and serve as a heat protector. It will also treat split ends and go against breakage. All you have to do is add a little bit to your wet hair and voila. This cream smells really good and it definitely makes your hair super soft and shiny.

Finding a good bronzer can always be tricky. Some shades are too dark, some are too orange, the list goes on and on. But the Beaute Basics 3 Tone Bronzer gets the job done perfectly, especially if you have a medium skin tone. The bronzer contains three shades: a dark brown, a light brown, and a pink. The trick to using this three tone bronzer is to mix all the colors so you get the perfect shade. What I really love about this bronzer is that it is a powder, I tend to prefer powder over liquids when it comes to makeup. I feel like powder products give a better coverage and look a lot less cakey. This bronzer has great coverage and the shades are gorgeous!

One product I was not excited to see in the August Glam Bag was the Benefit Cosmetics New Gimme Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel. I don't use brow products, I'm lucky enough not to have any problems with my eyebrows. But from what I've heard about this product is that it will darken your brows, it won't smudge and it will last a long amount of time.

Move over foundation brushes, these little egg shaped sponges are the newest sensation. We all know how amazing the Beautyblender but is the Beau Gachis Paris Pro Series Applicator Sponge a better alternative? Well compared to the Beautybleander, the Beau Gachis sponge is not as soft and a lot more stiff. It also takes a little bit longer to dry after cleaning it. But when it comes down to the application, this sponge is just as great, and that is what matters the most.

There was one product that actually went well with this Sugar Highness theme, the Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Neapolitan Palette. The color combination of the color palette and the name itself is very clever. It is called neapolitan because it looks like the ice cream! One shade looks like vanilla, another looks like strawberry and the last one looks like chocolate. It was really clever and these colors actually blend together well.

Overall, the August Glam Bag was okay. This would probably be up there for the top five worst Glam Bag themes, especially for this year. Based on the products alone, I'd give this Glam Bag 4 stars out of 5! Sometimes you just have to look past the negative and focus on the positive, yes the Glam Bag theme was terrible and immature but there were some pretty good products in there! I can't wait to see what the September Glam Bag will bring.

Until next time.

Trying To Channel My Inner Rebel Rebel

by , in
This Glam Bag review is on the late side, and I apologize. June and July were crazy busy months for me, there were a lot of events going on but now it is time to get back on track. So here you have it, the review of my ipsy June Glam Bag!
This past June, ipsy wanted you to channel your inner rebel with the Rebel Rebel Glam Bag. ipsy hosted several contests on social media dedicated to breaking some infamous makeup faux pas.
The general idea of the Rebel Rebel Glam Bag was a very cute idea. Makeup is not just something we use to make ourselves look pretty. To some is is an art form and a way to express their creativity. The bag itself oozes with creativity, all of the bright colors and the distinguished fonts makes it stand out. Ideally, this Glam Bag would the perfect bag to really experiment. But for me, that was not the case.
Inside my Glam Bag I received the following products:
  • Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Peach Pink
  • theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Moskowitz
  • Delectable by Cake Beauty Everything Balm
  • Jouer Highlighter in Tiare
  • Royal & Langnickel MODA™ Crease/Smudge Brush
  • tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in Aspen Pine (Point Reward)
The Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Peach Pink is a light and shimmery blush. Honestly, it is more shimmer than an actual blush. The blush barely applied to my medium skin tone, you could not tell I was wearing any. It almost matched my skin tone exactly. But when you look at the color itself, it is gorgeous. It is shame that it goes on so light and the shimmer was way too much. Seeing the theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Moskowitz in my Glam Bag made me really excited because I love theBalm. I have never had a bad experience with any of their products and that is still true to this day. This eyeshadow is a bold plum shade, and it really makes your eyes pop. It applies great on your eyelids and it is easy to blend. It has a very soft and smooth texture, and it is a comfortable matte eyeshadow to wear. The best part about this eyeshadow is that a little will go a long way, you do not need to use a lot to get a long lasting dark color.
The Delectable by Cake Beauty Everything Balm can supposedly be used for any beauty problem. It apparently can moisturize skin, repair cuticles, seal split ends, brightens dark circles and more. However, I've only used this as a lip balm. It is really soft when it is applied to your lips, however it ended up drying out my lips even more. I was constantly reapplying because the softness would not last. But I do love the scent of this balm, it has a fruity scent that smells very good. Overall I was not impressed with it as a lip balm but since it has other purposes, I am intrigued.
The Jouer Highlighter in Tiare is a pearly cream highlighter that leaves a natural shine. However, sometimes this product can feel and look a little greasy on your face. But after it sets in it leaves a natural shine. The cream itself is not very creamy, the sample I received was on the dry side. The good thing about this highlighter is that it is a light shade and leaves a nice shine. This shade is perfect if you have a light or medium skin tone.
One can never have too many makeup brushes so the Royal & Langnickel MODA™ Crease/Smudge Brush is a great addition to anyone's brush collection. This eyeshadow brush is super handy because it is double ended. The dense end of the brush is perfect for applying shadow and the other side is perfect for blending. The brush itself applies and blends very well. Fun fact, this brush can also be used to apply concealer. The brush is 100% vegan and it is super soft.
All Glam Bags contain five items, and if you're wondering why I have six instead this month that is because I used my ipsy points to redeem another product. My points were about to expire so it was time to redeem a reward. I used 500 points to redeem the tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in Aspen Pine. I received the a tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in a previous Glam Bag, and I really liked it so I thought I would get another shade. I really love dark green shades, so that is why I chose the Aspen Pine shade. It is a bold dark forest green color that makes your eyes pop. What I really love about the tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon is that it glides on your eyes so smoothly yet so bold at the same time. And it is also very easy to blend.
This was just another average Glam Bag, so I would give it 3.5/5 stars. The stars of this Glam Bag were the theBalm matte eyeshadow and the Royal & Langnickel brush. While the Elizabeth Mott blush did not make the cut. The Rebel Rebel Glam Bag was a pretty basic bag and not at all very rebellious, so it was hard to channel my inner rebel. Oh well. But at least the ipsy point reward was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be. I'd give the tre'StiQue eyeshadow crayon 5/5 stars! Since it is the end of July, I better get cracking on the review for July's Hot Summer Nights Glam Bag.
Until next time.

Looking Chic On Vacation With ipsy

by , in

If you're anything like me, you're most likely daydreaming about traveling around the world or mentally preparing your next vacation. Well, for all the makeup lovers out there with a case of wanderlust, ipsy's May Glam Bag was made especially with you in mind.

In honor of the "Destination Chic" theme for the month of May, I decided to take my Glam Bag on my latest trip to New York City! And yes I did test every product while I was on vacation!

Out of all the Glam Bags I have received from ipsy this one was the most cohesive. The Glam Bag itself was made perfectly for traveling. The print was bright and had famous landmarks from all over the world, like the Statue of Liberty and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Plus the bag was on the bigger side, so you could fit all, or almost all, of you beauty products. And for the first time in forever the products inside the bag went with the theme! Well for the most part... But even the promo card that comes along with Glam Bag fit perfectly with the theme, it was an actual postcard! You could even mail back the postcard to ipsy and tell them where you were from and what products you liked inside your Glam Bag.

Inside my Glam Bag were the following products:

  • Mellow Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lipstick in Nude
  • Eva NYC Hungry Hair Oil Treatment
  • Jersey Shore Cosmetics Lavender Moisture Rich Balm
  • AURORA Gel Effect Nail Polish in Safety Orange
  • Smashbox Cosmetics X-Rated Mascara
I was happy to find the Mellow Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lipstick in Nude because I always love to pack a lipstick or two when I go on vacation. Normally, I am not a huge fan of nude shades, but this one surprised me. This nude has pink undertones, perfect for my complexion, and it is a flattering color. It's not too dark and not too light. This matte lipstick is long lasting, has an amazing texture, and is also very hydrating. It is the perfect lipstick to take on vacation because of its every day color and hydrating quality. Bringing a lipstick that dries out your lips when you're traveling is no fun at all. Plus, a nude shade that compliments your complexion or even a hydrating matte lipstick can be tricky to find, I lucked out with the Mellow Matte Lipstick.

Whenever I'm traveling, I always like to bring extra hair products just in case. Why you ask? Well who knows how some hotels' shampoo or conditioner will work on my hair. You'll always find shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, hair cream, or hairsprays in my travel bag. And now I have a new hair oil to add to my collection, the Eva NYC Hungry Hair Oil Treatment. This hair oil has a great formula loaded with with Argan Oil, which has the vitamins A & E and omegas 3, 6, and 9 that your hair needs to be healthy and strong. It also has Keravis Protein, which will strengthen your hair and protect your hair from heat damage. The only downside to this particular hair oil is that if you put too much on your hair, it will get greasy. But on the upside, a little oil will go a long ways plus it smells really good!

Wherever you go, lip balm is essential to carry around, you never know when or where your lips will get chapped. So the Jersey Shore Cosmetics Lavender Moisture Rich Balm ideally was a great addition to the Destination Chic Glam Bag! One can never have enough lip balm! However, I was not a huge fan of this lip balm. The scent and taste of the lavender is really strong. But, it does keep your lips soft and moisturized. And it does feel very good on the lips. Another thing I really do not like about this lip balm is the price. On the Jersey Shores Cosmetics website, this lip balm costs $10. That price for a lip balm is kind of outrageous. I can't imagine paying $10 for a little lip balm, especially when you can purchase an Eos or Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm for a significantly cheaper price.

The day has come, I finally got a repeat offender in one of my Glam Bags. Last October I received the AURORA Gel Effect Nail Polish in Inky Dinky, and what did I receive this month? The AURORA Gel Effect Nail Polish in Safety Orange of course. If you want to read my previous review on the nail polish, check out that blog post here. Personally when I travel, I do not pack nail polish, in fact I like to get a pedicure before a vacation. And if I have time, maybe I will paint my nails before hand. So before my trip to New York City, I used the AURORA nail polish to paint my nails. This time, I buffed and filled my nails before painting them and that helped the nail polish stay on maybe a day longer than last time. The bright orange is a gorgeous color but the formula does not last for long and will chip easily.

Whenever I'm traveling or on the go, I like to stick a mini/travel size mascara in my purse. I can't tell you how many times I have forgotten to pack mascara in my suitcase and then rejoice when I remember I keep a spare in my purse. I received a mini version of the Smashbox Cosmetics X-Rated Mascara in my Destination Chic Glam Bag. Finding a mini version product from a high end brand like Smashbox in one of the Glam Bags always makes me excited and happy, because these are the products I want to try and I will most likely buy. What I love most about this mascara is the brush itself. Let's be honest, the mascara itself is very creamy and can smudge very easily. But with the brush the mascara becomes flawless and gives you gorgeous long lashes.

Overall, I would give this Glam Bag 3.5 stars out of 5. Not too shabby, but also not that great. The big win in this Glam Bag was the cohesiveness with the theme and the products. Sure one or two did not fit well, but for the most part this was the most cohesive theme ipsy has ever done within the past two years I have been a member. The big standouts in this bag were the lipstick, the hair oil and the mascara. Can't wait to see what is in store for the June Rebel Rebel Glam Bag!

Until next time.

April's Dreamy Glam Bag

by , in
During the spring time, all the months seem to roll together. Was it not just March? Now we're at the end of April, and it's gonna be May. Who else loves those Justin Timberlake memes?! If you have no idea what reference I'm making just click here. Gosh where does all the time go? Well at least with every new month, there is a new glam bag to try out!

The theme for the April Glam Bag was titled "The Dreamers." And shocker once again, ipsy has come up with another theme that is not cohesive with the products.

It really makes you think that ipsy's themes are only meant for their "stylists" so they can promote themselves and gain more followers. The effort does not go into the bags themselves, instead all of ipsy's efforts and hard work goes into more and more Youtube views and subscribers. I'm just one of those people who does not really care about what the Youtubers say or use, I like to try new products and form my own opinions. Hey that's just me, but I digress.

This month's Glam Bag itself was super adorable. It was yellow and orange with a blue zipper and it is similar to the colors and shades of a sunset, which indeed are very dreamy.

Inside the Glam Bag were the following products:

  • tarte cosmetics LipSurgence™ lip crème in wonder
  • Adesse New York Organic Infused Gel Effect Nail Lacquer in Irina
  • Harvey Prince Organics Keravegan Hair Mask
  • Starlooks Cream Eye Shadow in Rose Gold
  • Crown Brush C427 Duo Fiber Blush Brush

The tarte cosmetics LipSurgence™ lip crème in wonder is a beautiful red/pink shade lipstick. The color was gorgeous and looks good on anyone who wears it. The only downside to this lipstick is that it does tingle the lips when you first put it on, which would make one think it is a lip plumper. But it is not a plumper, and I have no explanation for the tingling. But other than that it is a pretty color and a long lasting lipstick.

One of the most disappointing products in the April Glam Bag was the Adesse New York Organic Infused Gel Effect Nail Lacquer in Irina. The gray/lavender shade of this nail polish is gorgeous, but the formula of this nail polish is awful. The nail polish goes on light so you'll need to reapply a couple coats. The worst thing about this polish is that it starts chipping hours after you just painted your nails. This nail polish might be good for you if you love to constantly paint your nails.

The Harvey Prince Organics Keravegan Hair Mask is a non-toxic and all-natural formula to help treat your damaged hair, or to help keep it healthy! The effects of this hair mask do not happen right away. Once I washed and blew dry my hair there was no immediate affect, it felt about the same after I wash my with hair with my normal conditioner. But the next day, I somehow woke up with softer and healthier hair. I do not know how or why that happened, but it did.

When it comes to the Starlooks Cream Eye Shadow in Rose Gold, my feelings are mixed. The metallic rose gold shade is a gorgeous color but the formula of the cream eye shadow is not the best. The cream is sticky and goes on super light. But once you smooth out the cream it has a good texture. It is difficult to wear that shade alone since it goes on so light and it almost matches the shade of a skin tone. Since this color is so light, it works best as an eyeshadow base.

Last but certainly not least, there is the Crown Brush C427 Duo Fiber Blush Brush. I'm always excited whenever I find a brush in my glam bags. They're such a necessity and the more you have the better! I do not own very many blush brushes so it was nice to try out something new. This brush is super soft and feels wonderful on the skin. The shape of this blush brush is very unique as well, I love that you can use two sides of the brush rather than just the bottom portion. So one side can be used for blush, and the other can be used for anything else, like a highlighter or foundation! When it comes to applying blush (or foundation or highlighter) it goes on nice and smooth, and it is also not too dark and not too light. The versatility of this brush is a big win, and it is always great to have brushes that can be used for one or more thing. Makeup brushes can be very expensive, especially the great quality ones. So this brush is a perfect addition to the glam bag.

Overall this Glam Bag had a lot of ups and a lot of downs. The two hits in this bag were the tarte lip crème and the Crown Brush blush brush, and the obvious miss was the Adesse nail polish. I would give Glam Bag 3.5 stars out of 5. Not too shabby! Can't wait to see what's in store for the May Glam Bag.

Until next time.

A Spring Awakening With ipsy

by , in
When March rolls around, spring fever is in the air. We want to forget all about the cold winter and focus only on the beautiful weather that's upon us. Goodbye dark and gloomy winter! Hello sunshine and hello to all the flowers in bloom.

Once February ended, it was time to say goodbye to all the dark colors in the makeup drawer and be reunited with all the bright and colorful makeup products that were hibernating this past winter.

The March glam bag from ipsy was themed Hello Spring. Pretty basic and general but a very appropriate and timely theme for the season. The glam bag itself had a rose pattern and also came in three different color combinations. There was a blue background and red rose, a mint green background and red rose, and a red background and mint green rose. I received the blue and red one which honestly is the prettiest and most unique in my opinion.

Inside my glam bag I received the following products:

  • Beau Gâchis® Paris Eyeshadow Brush
  • Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Cream
  • OFRA Cosmetics Green Go Eyeliner
  • NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick
  • TEMPTU Warm Glow Bronzer

The Beau Gâchis® Paris Eyeshadow Brush is an okay eyeshadow brush. This brush can be used to apply powder, liquid and cream products. The Beau Gâchis® brush does use animal hair, which is not the best. Lately, I've been a fan of vegan makeup brushes and less of a fan of those that use animal hair. But the brush does apply eyeshadow well and it is super soft.

My excitement could not be contained when I saw the Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Cream in my glam bag. I love Marc Anthony hair care products so I was happy to receive another! Recently, my hair has become quite frizzy after I shower so blow dry cream has been a recent addition into my hair product drawer. With this hair cream, you only need to add a little to your hair to smooth it down, and it gets the job done. The only con with this cream is that it can get your hands a little sticky but most hair creams do that anyways.

The next product is the OFRA Cosmetics Green Go Eyeliner, and it is a dark, almost olive, green shade. This eyeliner can also be used as eyeshadow or lip liner, but you won't see any green lips on me, who do I look like? The Wicked Witch of the West? The color pairs well with my eyes, but that's basically all the good when it comes to this eyeliner. The eyeliner goes on super light and it is not very noticeable on the eye. When you are applying the eyeliner, it crumbles very easily. It is not a long lasting product or good quality product.

Another product I was very excited to try in the March glam bag was the NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick. I received the shade Pink Lust, which I was very happy with. It seems like ipsy was only giving me nude shades of lipstick or gloss, and it was nice to see a shade I would actually be happy to wear. The color was a gorgeous and vibrant pink. Even though I am not a big fan of liquid lipsticks, this lipstick was great. Most liquid lipsticks that I have tried are not very long lasting and have a strange formula but that was not the case with this lipstick. There was no weird aftertaste or a weird feeling on my lips, instead if felt like I was wearing a normal matte lipstick. The liquid lipstick dries quickly and has a matte finish. It is also long lasting so there is no need to reapply constantly.

Now lastly there is the TEMPTU Warm Glow Bronzer, which I have mixed feelings about. It is a great product but it is packaged poorly which makes it hard to use. There is no seal on the product so once you open it and use it for the first time, the liquid will go down to the cap. I contacted the ipsycare twitter about this, and they told me that you have to be careful when opening it because it will collect in the cap. So I think TEMPTU needs to find better packaging for this product because who would want to pay for a bronzer that constantly leaks? But other than the faults with the packaging the product is a great liquid bronzer. It is a nice light brown shade that gives anyone's skin tone a sun kissed glow. The bronzer blends well and it gives a nice finished glow.

Overall, I would say this glam bag was a success! I was genuinely impressed with most of the products, even though some of them did not meet my expectations. The clear hits in this bag were the liquid lipstick and blow dry cream while the miss was the green eyeliner. I'd give this bag 4/5 stars!

Until next time.

Getting Pretty With ipsy

by , in
When you think of February, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Valentine's Day? Hearts? Love? Pink? Those are all good guesses, but apparently what comes to ipsy's mind during the month of February is Pretty In Pink.

If you do not know what Pretty In Pink is have no fear, it was a cheesy rom-com from 80s. We talked about this movie in my media ethics class. Why? I can't recall, but personally I think my professor had some interest in Molly Ringwald.

Don't get me wrong, Pretty In Pink is still kind of relevant, in fact this past February was the 30th anniversary of the movie. Which is why ipsy chose #ipsyPink as the theme for the February glam bag.

Now we all know how I feel about ipsy and its "themes." And my little hopes for this month's theme met my low expectations. Inside the glam bag I received the following products:

  • THEORIE Argan Oil Ultimate Reform Hair Serum
  • tre'StiQue Baby Blush Stick in Bora Bora Coral
  • ModelCo LIP LACQUER Lip Gloss in Morocco
  • Ciaté London Olivia Palermo x Ciaté London Paint Pot
  • IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye® Anti-Aging Concealer

The THEORIE Argan Oil Ultimate Reform Hair Serum is said to restore moisture and protect your hair from heat styling and environmental stress. The oil smells really nice but with the way the bottle works you could end up using too much at one time, which happened to me. The oil comes gushing out and when you apply too much to your hair it can get sticky. But if it gets sticky, just spread the oil with your fingers or with a brush. After that it will feel good on your hair and soften it up.

Is it just me or do all tre'StiQue products all look like crayons? When I first saw the tre'StiQue Baby Blush Stick in Bora Bora Coral I thought it was going to be a lipstick or liner. But I was surprised to see that it was a blush. Normally, I use powder blushes but this cream blush was surprisingly amazing. The shade I received was indeed Bora Bora Coral and the color was gorgeous. Not too bright and not too light. And the color paired with my complexion perfectly. The blush glides on nicely and blends very well as a subtle rosy cheek.

It had been a while since I received a lip gloss and I was happy about that. But this month my luck ran out. The ModelCo LIP LACQUER Lip Gloss in Morocco is a nice nude color but since it is a gloss you really can't tell what color it is or really appreciate it. This lip gloss is very shiny and sticky. It also tastes pretty bad but it is long lasting. When it comes to this lip gloss less is more and it gets better the longer you wear it.

When it comes to nail polish, I'm still learning. I like to get my nails done rather than do them myself. Slowly but surely, I'm getting better when it comes to doing my own nails. The Ciaté London Olivia Palermo x Ciaté London Paint Pot was probably one of the best nail polishes I have ever used in my whole life. When it comes to my nails, I'm terrible. I can't paint them well enough to save my life. But when I used Ciaté my nails looked normal instead of the usual hot mess when I use a different brand. The shade I received was Hutch - my go to red, a beautiful and bright red. This nail polish applies very easily and very smoothly. I applied two coats to be safe, but after the first coat it looked amazing and bright. The polish dries fast and is very durable. It lasted for a decent amount of time and started to chip several days later.

Lastly but certainly not least, there is the ever popular IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye® Anti-Aging Concealer. I received the shade neutral medium which matched my complexion perfectly. Although this is an under eye concealer, it can also be used to treat lines and wrinkles and also correct redness and blemishes. This concealer can be really heavy and sticky, but it covers up pretty well. Also when it comes to this concealer, less is more, you don't need a lot to cover up or to make it stay on all day.

Just like any other time, the theme and the glam bag are not cohesive. But for this glam bag in particular, it did not matter to me because the quality of the products in this bag were so great. The blush and nail polish were a big hits for me, and the only miss was the lip gloss which really was not that bad. Everything else exceeded my expectations, so I can't complain. Overall I'd give this bag 4/5 stars.

Until next time.

ipsy Wants All Eyes On You This New Year

by , in
New year, new look. That always seems to be the saying around the New Year. Sometimes we get a new haircut or we spice up our beauty regime. Because why blend in when you're meant to stand out?

Well that happens to be ipsy's first glam bag theme for 2016. The January theme "All Eyes On You" implies that you will stand out with these products, which are all about your eyes. So let's hope these products help your eyes pop and shine.

If you recall my review on ipsy's "Face Fashion" glam bag, I was not impressed because I hardly received any face products. So when I heard the theme was "All Eyes On You" I was skeptical. But I am proud to report that the majority of the products I received were indeed eye products.

In my January glam bag I received the following products:

  • theBalm Cosmetics Mr. Write (Now)
  • Hikari Cosmetics Cream Metallic Pigment Shadow
  • Beau Gâchis® Paris Smudge Brush
  • Lasting Smiles Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme
  • Hey Honey Skincare Open Your Eyes Eye Contour Lifting Fluid

First, let's start off with the theBalm Cosmetics Mr. Write (Now) eyeliner and I received the shade Jac B. Bronze which is a rich bronze color. The shade is a great color, that's not too bright and not too dark. It is a subtle nude shade that makes your eyes pop. The eyeliner itself is long lasting and has a very smooth texture. Also it has a built in sharpener so you don't have to worry about having to sharpen it. So that's a major plus!

Next we have the Hikari Cosmetics Cream Metallic Pigment Shadow and I received the shade Mink which is a pretty metallic pink color. I love cream eyeshadows but I would not even call this a cream eyeshadow. It seems like this was a hybrid between cream and powder. The texture was hard as a rock and the consistency was not creamy at all. But the only plus from this eyeshadow was that the color was very pretty.

Then there is the Beau Gâchis® Paris Smudge Brush, which is a brush for gel eyeliners or blending colors. Not much to say on this brush besides that it was super soft and it applied very well.

Next there is the Lasting Smiles Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme. What I really liked about this product is the philanthropy that goes along with it. With every 1,000 lip balms sold, Lasting Smiles funds one cleft lip surgery for a child from the same countries where they source their ingredients. When I saw it was peppermint flavored, I immediately thought of Burt's Bees and prepped myself for the burning and stinging sensation. However, I was pleasantly surprised when it did no such thing. The lip balm is very soft and soothing and overall is a great product from a great company.

Lastly we have the Hey Honey Skincare Open Your Eyes Eye Contour Lifting Fluid. The fluid is used to reduce puffiness, hydrate and tighten the skin around the eyes. The only thing worth mentioning about this product is that it made the skin under my eyes super soft.

Overall, I'd say the first glam bag of 2016 was a major success! I'd give this glam bag 4/5 stars because I was pretty impressed with these products. Shoutout to ipsy for actually using ipsymatch and following through on a theme, I was impressed and I have no complaints. I look forward to next glam bag.

Until next time.

ipsy Sends its Love in December Glam Bag

by , in
Happy New Year everyone! After taking a little blogging break after Blogmas, I figured it was about time to get back to work. So let's start off the 2016 edition of Hey Kaitlin Mary with a glam bag review.

The last glam bag of 2015 was called "For You With Love From ipsy." The overall theme as the glam bag being a present from ipsy was cute especially for December. So thank you ipsy for this lovely Christmas present that I pay for every month.

The bag itself was adorable, and it was almost like a little red clutch. Inside the clutch I received: Clark's Botanicals Deep Moisture Mask, Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Mechanical Eye Liner, ModelCo Lip Enhancer Illusion Lip Liner, Pacifica Power Of Love Natural Lipstick and Marc Anthony Hair Care Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Treatment.

First there is the Clark's Botanicals Deep Moisture Mask, and this product is unique to say the least. It can be used as a mask or a moisturizer, doesn't that seem strange? I understand a moisturizing mask but a mask that can also be used as a moisturizer is just strange. A mask you have to wash off but you let a moisturizer soak into your skin. How does it do both?! Ladies and gentlemen, this does not make sense!! As a mask, this product was strange because it acted more like a moisturizer. And as a moisturizer this product really shined as it softens and soothes your skin.

Next up in the glam bag there is the Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Mechanical Eye Liner. The idea of mechanical eye liner is genius, because sharpening eye liner pencils can be a huge pain. So instead of sharpening the eye liner, all you have to do is twist up if you want more. I received a black shade called Wild Child. The shade goes on super light and needs to be applied a lot if you want a nice bold black. The color is subtle rather than dark. The only great thing about this eye liner is the applicator, other than that it is simply okay.

Then there is the ModelCo Lip Enhancer Illusion Lip Liner. The packaging of this lip liner is misleading. I thought I was unwrapping a hot pink lip liner and I was so excited because I really have been wanting a hot pink lip liner. But unfortunately it was not hot pink, instead it was another nude shade. Yay... The shade was a natural nude, the exact color of my lips to be precise. The texture of the lip liner is rather odd and harsh, so it can be a little difficult to apply. Overall it was an okay product, and it wouldn't be a lip liner I'd use daily or often...

Next there is the Pacifica Power Of Love Natural Lipstick and I received the Tender Heart shade. Which indeed was a nude lipstick! I swear ipsy will only send me nude lipsticks and no matter how often I tell them that I do not like nude shades, I still get them anyways... But I digress, I normally love Pacifica's products but this lipstick was awfully disappointing. My lipstick was hard as a rock and extremely rough and dry on my lips. Now I don't know if every product was like mine, but I'd like to think that all of Pacifica's lipsticks are not terrible. So I'll just assume mine was part of a bad batch. The shade was boring and the quality was terrible, it made my lips chapped after wearing it for a couple hours.

And lastly but certainly not least, there is the Marc Anthony Hair Care Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Treatment. First off, I'd like to say I love Marc Anthony Hair Care. These products are probably the best quality and the most affordable hair care products on the market. I currently use the Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Conditioner as my daily conditioner and I love it. So to receive the deep conditioning version of this product in my glam bag made me extra excited. Why you ask? Well because I already knew this product would be amazing and that I would love it. Just like the regular conditioner, this deep conditioner makes my hair super soft and silky.

Overall, I wasn't that impressed with the quality of products I received in the December glam bag. One product was amazing while the other four were completely average. So thanks to the four meh products, I have to give the glam bag 2/5 stars. So maybe for 2016, ipsy's resolution should be to actually start using the ipsyMatch service when it comes to crafting glam bags.

Until next time.

My Glam Bag Has An Alter Ego? I Couldn't Find It...

by , in
When October strolls around we all have pumpkins and Halloween on the mind. We think about how can we alter ourselves for the one holiday we are allowed to play dress up and be something that we normally are not. But nowadays, clothes aren't the only thing we use to transform our appearance on Halloween. With makeup we can transform ourselves on into anything we want. A mermaid, a superhero, a skull, you name it, it is possible. That was allegedly the idea behind this month's Glam Bag from ipsy.

My alter ego Glam Bag included a gold and black makeup bag which had the following products inside: AURORA Gel Effect Nail Polish in Inky Dinky, theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick, Beauty Without Cruelty Fragrance Free Hand and Body Lotion, Nourish Organic Pure Hydrating Argan Face Serum and pur~lisse BB Tinted Moist Cream SPF30.

The AURORA Gel Effect Nail Polish in Inky Dinky is a nail polish that gives off a gel effect. Now I'm not familiar with gel nails so I have no idea how it differs from regular nail polish. I'm not a nail expert and I never will be. The shade Inky Dinky is a nice navy blue/purple shade, honestly to me it looks like indigo. This nail polish claims that it will last for two weeks but I sincerely doubt that, I put this nail polish on two or three hours ago and it has already started chipping. With this nail polish you have to do at least two coats for it to look somewhat decent. The brush is really thick and when you're painting your nails the polish gets a little clumpy.

The theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick was a complete surprise. Then again I really shouldn't be surprised because theBalm has such amazing products and their puns are always entertaining. The shade I received was called Committed, which is a pink nude shade! Which is a shade I LOVE! Thank you ipsy for finally listening to my critiques. Pink nudes are my go to and I'm in love with this one. Also I'm normally not the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks because they never last long, even if they claim they do. But this lipstick actually does last for a long time. I finished a grande Chestnut Praline latte and my lipstick is still visible. It's everything that I want in a lipstick, and there's no need for constant reapplication.

The Beauty Without Cruelty Fragrance Free Hand and Body Lotion moisturizes and softens your skin. It is supposed to help your skin stay youthful and vibrant while being a vegan, cruelty free and paraben free product. It is scentless which just reminds me of the free lotion you get from hotels. There's nothing super special about this lotion besides that it does its job and makes your skin soft and smooth.

The Nourish Organic Pure Hydrating Argan Face Serum is an oil that hydrates and smooths your skin. The oil itself is very runny and that just seems to be a common thing with Nourish Organic products. But the fact that it was runny didn't bother me because this product has a lot of pros instead of cons. Pro #1, it smells so good and I just loved putting it on my face. Pro #2, it made my face feel so good. After using this product my face felt smoother, softer and it actually evened out my skin tone and texture. I love this stuff and it surprised me, especially since I didn't think I would.

The pur~lisse BB Tinted Moist Cream SPF30 was an exciting find in my Glam Bag. I've never used BB Cream but I've heard so many good things about it so I was excited to give it a try. If you don't keep up with the latest makeup trends (like myself), BB Cream is a moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock all in one. It's soothing on your skin while it protects it from UV rays, thank you SPF. It really does help brighten and shine your complexion and improves your skin texture all while it makes your skin soft and smooth.

Overall I was impressed by the products in my Glam Bag, the only thing that disappointed me was how none of these products went with the theme of an alter ego. An alter ego is defined as a second self, which is believed to be distinct from a person's normal or original personality. Which I don't think any of these products did and they certainly did not make me feel any different. These products didn't change anything about my appearance. Although these products are amazing and I'm very happy with my Glam Bag, I just wish Michelle Phan and the people at ipsy would work harder on the theme of the Glam Bag and integrate the products in a better way. I've noticed that the themes never go hand in hand with the products and that's something ipsy truly needs to work on. Instead, the Youtubers at ipsy use the themes to promote themselves and their content rather than the actual products which we are paying for. I bet none of the Youtubers actually use any of the products we receive. If this does not change in the future, I bet some consumers (like myself) will switch to other beauty boxes like Sephora's new box Play! or Birchbox.

Rating this Glam Bag is going to be tough because I really enjoyed the products but the theme just did not even belong with any of this products. Most of these products would have done better in last month's bag Face Fashion. If I'm judging this bag solely on the products it would receive 4/5 stars. BUT since the theme and the Glam Bag go hand in hand I'd have to give this bag 2.5/5 stars. This is because there were only three things that were even related to an alter ego, the lipstick and the nail polish, and the glam bag itself.

Did you get a Glam Bag? What did you think? How do you feel about ipsy's themed bags? Am I being too hard on them or do you agree their themes seem pointless and have nothing to do with the actual products? Have you tried any other beauty box subscriptions? Tell me all about them! Until next time.

ipsy Glam Bag: Prep School Queen or Wannabe?

by , in
The August 2015 Glam Bag from ipsy was themed: Prep School, which was very clever since August is the month when summer comes to an end and everyone heads back to school. Unless you've graduated, of course. The "prep school" theme was cute yet juvenile at the same time. But then again it's always fun to channel your inner Blair Waldorf. But the real question is, would Blair Waldorf wear any of these makeup products? Or were these products made for the Jenny Humphreys out there?

This month's Glam Bag came with a houndstooth patterned makeup bag, which indeed is Blair Waldorf approved. But instead of a cloth pouch it feels more like plastic or rubber, and it certainly will be easy to clean and won't get stained. Inside the pouch you'll find: the Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen, the OFRA Comsetics Lip Liner in Wine, the JUARA Skincare Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Facial Mask, the Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Oil Treatment and the tarte deluxe LipSurgence™ skintuitive lip gloss in energy.

So first there is the Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen, obviously in the color black. It is a felt tipped pen and contains a pro formula. It applies smoothly, dries quickly, and lasts all day or all night. This product is easy to use and it does not smear or get too messy at all. It does go on dark which the Jenny Humphreys out there would surely love.

Next, the OFRA Comsetics Lip Liner in Wine, disappoints because the color does not look like a shade of wine, so to call it that is misleading. And the image of this lip liner on ipsy and on OFRA are completely inaccurate. When you think of wine as a lipstick shade you imagine a red/purple shade instead of a nude pink shade. Would you ever drink brown wine? However, the shade is nice if you enjoy wearing neutral tones. This liner gives your lips a matte finish and according to ipsy, you can add some "serious drama to your pout" if you smudge the liner over your entire lip before applying a top coat of lipstick or gloss.

Then, there is the the JUARA Skincare Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Facial Mask. This mask is supposed to detoxify, brighten and strengthen stressed, tired, or dull-looking skin. Turmeric helps brighten and even out skin tone and provides antioxidant protection. It also has kaolin clay to purify the skin and refine pores. Then with the little touch of candlenut oil to soften and nurture skin. This product is free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, mineral oil, gluten, artificial colorants and no harsh chemicals. Best of all, it is not tested on animals and is 100% vegetarian friendly. The mask should stay on for 10-15 minutes and then be rinsed. It is advised to use this product 1-3 times a week or whenever your skin needs a little radiance boost. It can also be used as an overnight treatment if you want to wake up with a glowing complexion. The mask has a clear coat so it's not like one of those white or clay masks that makes everyone think you're some kind of ghost or monster. The mask really does not harden and it starts to feel oily after some time but it ends up leaving your skin soft and smooth once you rinse it off.

Next there is the Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Oil Treatment. It is a lightweight oil that will give you strong, glossy, frizz-free hair and it works on all hair types. It has Mediterranean Olive Oil and Moroccan Argan Oil which are used to protect and condition hair, and it also has Vitamin E and shea butter to hydrate and soften. You apply 1-3 drops, depending on how thick and long your hair is, to either damp or dry hair. The oil softens and soothes the hair and not much oil is needed for good results.

Lastly, there is the tarte deluxe LipSurgence™ skintuitive lip gloss in energy. This lip gloss is infused with rich antioxidants to help smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while delivering intense hydration. This lip gloss pairs well with the OFRA Comsetics Lip Liner in Wine. The most unique thing about this lipgloss is the shade energy which creates a custom pink tone just for you. This is because of the skintuitive™ formula which responds to your skin’s natural pH and energy, and therefore gives you a personalized tint that is truly your own unique shade. If that doesn't scream Queen B to you, what would?

So who does this Glam Bag belong to? The prep school queens or the wannabes? Neither, there's a little something for everyone. In fact, with one of these products, it was made for literally everyone. With the tarte lipgloss, it creates a shade made especially for you. So instead of picking out one another's differences and trying to all blend into one form of perfection, celebrate the differences! That's what makes society so great and unique.

Overall, this Glam Bag wasn't bad at all, and on a scale of one to five, I'd give it a 3.5. Thanks for reading and until next time!

Swim into Summer Beauty with this June Glam Bag

by , in
Hey everyone, I know it's been a while but I've been exploring my new found freedom and spent the past couple weeks traveling and spending time with my boyfriend who I don't get to see in person all the time. Anyways, back to the subject matter, I present to you my June 2015 Swim into Beauty Glam Bag review.
The theme, Swim into Beauty, was cute and a perfect way to kick off summer. The Glam Bag itself was cute and I loved the material, it was perfect to take to the beach or even have it poolside. The only problem with the Glam Bag itself was that my zipper was chipped so on the keychain it was all pink/orange with a gray spot. In this Glam Bag I received: the OFRA Cosmetics Turquoise Eyeliner, the Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer, the LAVANILA LABORATORIES The Healthy Body Butter in Pure Vanilla, the FORMULA X Power Source nail color, and the tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon.

I'm going to start off with the OFRA Cosmetics Turquoise Eyeliner. The eyeliner itself works very well, it goes on smoothly and does not smudge easily. It is a very good quality eyeliner. And I love the color turquoise, but not for eyeliner. I'm not a huge fan of colored eyeliner, I feel like it is a very juvenile trend and I'm just not into it. Like I've said before, I went through that phase already and I've matured since my beginning days with makeup. And apparently this eyeliner can also be used as a lipliner according to the product information on ipsy. Well then, if you're into blue eyelids and lips have at it with this eyeliner.

Next we have the Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer, and I was so excited to receive this product. I had been dying to try this and it is awesome! It made my face soft and smooth and it helped my foundation stay bright full throughout the day.

Then we have the LAVANILA LABORATORIES The Healthy Body Butter in Pure Vanilla. I really liked this body butter and I'd say this is the best kind of lotion type of product I've received from ipsy. It smelt super good, then again you can't go wrong with a vanilla scent, it's my personal favorite. And it also made my skin feel very nice and soft! In the past couple weeks, I've already used most of this body butter.

And next we have the FORMULA X Power Source nail color, which is a hot coral pink shade. I love the color and it almost matches the Glam Bag. I'm not a big fan of nail polish, partially because I'm so bad at applying it but this was so easy to apply. I hardly messed up and this polish dries quickly. It also lasts a long time on its own, it didn't start chipping for me until after three or four days, with my nails and the polish I normally use, my nails chip after one or two days. This nail polish really impressed me and I loved the sample size, since I don't use nail polish often it is the perfect size for me.

Lastly we have the tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in the Kona coffee shade, which is a nice chocolate brown. I really like eye shadow crayons, and I really liked this one. Even though it did smudge easily the first time I used it I liked how well it blended and how easily it applied.

Overall I'd say I was pretty impressed with this Glam Bag. I think ipsy did a decent job picking products that would be good to wear on a beach or pool or a summer day. I think the addition of a waterproof product would have been an amazing idea but what do I know? I was really impressed with this bunch of products and this was the best Glam Bag I've received from ipsy. So I'm going to give this Glam Bag 4/5 stars! Thanks for reading and until next time!

ipsy Glam Bag! Beautifully Bohemian April

by , in
What's this? Is this an April Glam Bag review done by yours truly before she receives her May Glam Bag? Is Kaitlin finally getting it together and doing something timely? The answer to all these questions is yes! Or at least I'm trying to be better. Anyways, on to this Glam Bag review!
The theme for April was Beautifully Bohemian, and honestly I didn't understand the concept behind the theme. To me (and the dictionary) the word bohemian means a person who has informal and unconventional social habits. Also fun fact, a Bohemian is a person from Bohemia which is in the Czech Republic. I think with the bohemian theme they truly meant a free spirit or no collar lifestyle, at least that's how they promoted it on social media. Anyways, the makeup bag itself is very cute, I love the style it almost looks like it's a woven or straw textile, I'm not super sure how to classify it. Another great thing with this bag is that it is way bigger compared to all the other ones I've received. Hey ipsy, can all the Glam Bags be this size? Well inside my Beautifully Bohemian Glam Bag I received: Hey Honey Good Morning - Honey Silk Facial Serum, Hikari Cosmetics Blush, theBalm Cosmetics NUDE Dude Eyeshadow Single, Starlooks Satin Finish Lip Gloss and Mullein & Sparrow Mini Lip & Cheek Tint.

First we have the Hey Honey Good Morning - Honey Silk Facial Serum, which is basically just a honey moisturizer. I love that it isn't tested on animals, that's always a big plus for me! The facial serum had a good texture, it was very creamy, and it didn't smell bad, it honestly smelt like honey. It made my face soft and brighter which is always good and what a moisturizer is supposed to do!

Next we have the Hikari Cosmetics Blush in the Tango shade, which is a bright pink. I was pleasantly surprised with this blush, I love the size, it was a full size blush! The blush was very smooth and went well on my skin. The color also gave my complexion a bright rosy cheek.

Then we have the theBalm Cosmetics NUDE Dude Eyeshadow Single in the Flirty shade, which is a metallic purple brown tone. The color combination sounds odd but it actually is very pretty and it's a nice neutral tone that shines and shimmers. And the eyeshadow goes on really well and lasts very long! One thing I really like about this was the packaging, which is a shirtless man, and his torso is the eye shadow. I thought it was really funny, clever and creative.

Next we have the Starlooks Satin Finish Lip Gloss in the Cuddle shade, which is a natural nude color. I never really have much to say about lip gloss but this was actually a really good lipgloss. It wasn't sticky, it lasted a long time and you didn't need to reapply constantly and there wasn't a terrible after taste. The lip gloss also made my lips shiny and glossy and it just felt good on my lips!

Lastly we have the Mullein & Sparrow Mini Lip & Cheek Tint. The dictionary defines tint as a shade or variety of color. However when I put this "tint" on my lips and cheeks there was no color or shade at all! It was clear! So this product simply confuses me. This didn't add any color for me, instead, I used this almost like a highlighter and placed it along my cheek bones for contouring and that's really the only use I have for this product.

Overall, the April Glam Bag turned out a lot better than I anticipated, seeing all the promotions for the "bohemian" themed bag got me worried and made me think I wouldn't like anything. But I was pleasantly surprised and I ended up enjoying most of the products! I'd give this Glam Bag 4/5 stars! I can't wait to see what's in the May Glam Bag and until next time!

ipsy Glam Bags! February ipsy Love and March Floral Fantasy

by , in
Here I am yet again falling behind on my Glam Bag reviews, work and life have been hectic and I did a lot of traveling in March. But I'm back on track and ready to get back to work on my passion. This lovely blog of mine. If you're reading this, I just want to say thank you for reading, whether one person or one hundred people read my blog, I'm just happy someone is reading it. Anyways let's get to this double header of ipsy Glam Bags!

First let's start off with the February Glam Bag, which was themed #ipsyLOVE, perfect for Valentine's Day. The bag itself, was cute and pink with an awesome geometric pattern, perfect for the month of love! Inside my Glam Bag were the Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray, the Mitchell and Peach Fine Radiance Face Oil, the Emite Make Up Professional Eye Lash Curler, the City Color Cosmetics Creamy Lip Stain and the ModelCo BLUSH Cheek Powder.

First we have the Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray and overall I thought it was okay. I never use any volumizing sprays or much hair product in general, so I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to it. I love that the spray wasn't sticky and smelly but a major thing for me was that it did not add much volume to my hair. However this product can also be a heat protecting spray, which is the primary reason why I use it.

Next we have the Mitchell and Peach Fine Radiance Face Oil and this product surprised me. At first I was scared to use this product because it was an oil and I was worried it would make my skin oily and greasy. But since I have a tendency to get dry skin rather than oily skin, the face oil helped soothe and soften my skin. Also with the way the bottle is, the top is sort of like an eye dropper so only a little amount of oil comes out at once. A Youtuber I enjoy watching, Ingrid Nilsen, actually recommended this face oil in one of her videos from February! So there's two people who enjoyed this face oil for sure.

Then we have the Emite Make Up Professional Eye Lash Curler and I was very scared to use this product. I received an email from ipsy, warning those who received the eye lash curler may receive a broken or misaligned one. Thankfully I did not receive a misaligned one! But I was still wary to use it. The first time I used it I didn't like it but then I tried it again and I ended up loving it. Currently, my eye lash curler is one that I bought from Wal Mart, and it is just a generic brand. After I got more comfortable with the Emite eye lash curler, it started to work better than my normal one. The Eimite curler actually is a really good eye lash curler, it made my eyelashes nice and long. Here's a little tip for when you're using an eye lash curler heat the curler with a hair dryer that way it doesn't pinch and hurt your lashes!

Next we have the City Color Cosmetics Creamy Lip Stain, and I received the "Flirtini" shade. I've never used a lip stain before until ipsy so this one is the second lip stain I've used in my entire life and what I've learned about lip stains is that they are a hybrid between lipstick and lipgloss. Anyways, when I saw the color I was really excited I thought it was going to be a bright pink color but the packaging is misleading. Instead of a bright pink lip, I ended up having a dark pink lip. Even though it is not the color I wanted, I still like it. The only things that I don't like about this lip stain are that the color does not last long at all for me and the terrible after taste.

Lastly, we have the ModelCo BLUSH Cheek Powder and I received the 'Cosmopolitan' shade. I absolutely loved this shade, it was a beautiful ballerina pink which matched perfectly with my complexion. The blush was soft and felt great on my cheeks and gave me a perfect and natural rosy blush! I love this blush and I highly recommend it.

The February Glam Bag had some major hits like the face oil and blush! And I also didn't completely hate anything so that's a really good sign. Overall I'd give this Glam Bag 3.5 stars! Let's see how the March Glam Bag did!

The March Glam Bag was themed Floral Fantasy, which was cute seeing that spring was on its way. The Glam Bag itself was adorable, I'm a huge fan of floral prints. In this Glam Bag I received: Coolway Glow Oil Treatment for hair, Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Duo eyeshadow, NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick, pūr~lisse beauty pūr~delicate gentle soymilk cleanser & makeup remover, and Boo-Boo Cover-Up concealer.

First we have the Coolway Glow Oil Treatment, which is an oil for your hair. I've never used a hair oil before, shocking right? The oil was alcohol and cruelty free, which is always good and something I respect. Overall, I liked the hair oil, it made my hair shiny and soft and it smelt really good. The one thing I didn't like about this product was the packaging. I had to cut off the tip of the applicator to get any of the oil out.

Next we have the Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Duo eyeshadow in the shade Apricot Glow. I liked the the shade, it was a nice bronze color and was very shimmery. The shadow gave my eyes a nice natural glow and shimmer and the duo pairs very well together.

Then we have the NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick and I received the Pops shade. On the ipsy website, the color looks like a light pink brown however this is not the case at all, it is definitely a nude brown shade. The other two shades available were a pink and a purple and I wish I would have gotten one of those instead. This lipstick is a satin lipstick and it is also a hydrating lipstick. I love how hydrating it is, but I am not a fan of satin. Satin lipsticks never stay long on me, and I prefer matte.

Next we have the pūr~lisse beauty pūr~delicate gentle soymilk cleanser & makeup remover. This cleanser is supposed to remove dirt and even mascara while soothing skin. It does a decent job getting rid of my makeup, a way better job compared to other cleansers that I've used. But I still had to cover what the cleanser missed with one of my make up remover wipes. It made my skin slightly softer but didn't keep it from getting dry and I had to still use moisturizer after.

And lastly we have the Boo-Boo Cover-Up concealer which I received the medium shade. I was so excited to receive this concealer, I had been wanting to redeem it with my ipsy points so I was saving up! But lucky for me, ipsy matched it into my Glam Bag! I absolutely love this concealer because it covers up all my imperfections and it actually contains healing ingredients! This concealer works amazingly, it's soft on my skin and covers perfectly.

So with the March Glam Bag, there were some hits and misses. The concealer was a big win for me, while everything else was just okay. Overall I'd give this Glam Bag 3/5 stars! I can't wait to (finally) open up my April Glam Bag and see what's inside! Until next time!

ipsy Glam Bag: January 2015, A Fresh Start

by , in
Well here we are back again with another ipsy Glam Bag post. For the first Glam Bag of 2015, the theme "Fresh Start" is completely an obvious choice. A new year, a new me right? Personally I think the theme is cute and it goes well with the bag because I received a bunch of new brands and I couldn't wait to try them all out! First off I want to start with how much I love this Glam Bag itself. I think the makeup bag is very cute and I love the colors, one side is blue, the other white and the ipsy tag is orange. Way too cute! Good job ipsy!
The first product I want to talk about is the Coastal Scents Liquid Eyeliner. I received the Jet shade. The first thing I noticed about this eyeliner is that it is really runny and watery. I accidentally dropped the bottle in my sink and it splattered all over. My sink looked like it had an oil spill. When using this eyeliner you have to be very careful, it does not dry instantly and I can't tell you how many times I had to fix it because it wasn't dry. I even used an eye base to make sure it would dry faster and stay longer. Liquid eyeliner in general takes a lot of patience but I think I'm going to stick with my Tokidoki and Makeup Forever liquid eyeliners. The one thing I do love about this eyeliner is that it does stay on all day and all night. I didn't wash my makeup off last night (I know, bad Kaitlin) and this eyeliner is still on. So I can't complain about that.

Next we have the Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush. This brush is so cute and I love that it came in pink! It's so fun and flirty. But not only is it cute, it actually does an amazing job! It's so soft on your skin and it doesn't cake on too much eye shadow and it blends very well. It's perfect and I love it! I highly recommend getting it. Thank you so much ipsy!

Then we have the La Fresh Eco-Beauty Be Good. Good Day. Day Moisturizer. This product is cruelty free! Which I always love, however I'm not a fan of the packaging. It came in a little little plastic tube that kind reminded me of toothpaste. However the moisturizer is not like toothpaste at all. It had an odd smell to it, which I still can not describe, but the smell isn't a turn off. Overall the moisturizer is very good, it makes the skin softer, as it should. It takes a little bit of time to absorb but that was probably because I used too much at one time.

Next we have the Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow. In my second Glam Bag I received Pacifica eyeliner and I did not like it when I first used it, but times have changed. I gave it another shot and loved it. So I'm sorry for ever saying anything bad about Pacifica. But anyways, back to the eyeshadow. I received the Ethereal shade which is a really light and neutral tone. I actually heard about this eye shadow from Youtuber, Miss Glamorazzi herself, Ingrid Nilsen. She had nothing but great things to say about it, so when I got it in my Glam Bag I was super excited. Ingrid was right, this eye shadow is amazing. It's light and refreshing and I just love it!

Last but not least we have the Velvet 59 Velvet Rose Lipgloss which was a nude cocoa shade. There's not much to say about this, it's lip gloss, it makes my lips shiny and sticky. It is a nice neutral tone, and that's pretty much it.

My look using all the Glam Bag products!

Overall I'd give this January Glam Bag 3.5/5 stars! Not too bad ipsy, I got lucky and got two amazing products and the rest were so so. I didn't hate anything in this Glam Bag so that's definitely a good start to the New Year! I can't wait to see what ipsy has in store for me in 2015! Until next time!

ipsy Glam Bags: November + December!

by , in
Hello 2015! It's a new year and you know what that means, resolutions. So here I am officially starting mine, you'll never guess what it is. Writing more and more on this lovely blog of mine! Maybe even try some new forms of media. Who knows, but anyways, I want to take this time to finally finish up my reviews of my last two Glam Bags from 2014.
Let's start with the November Glam Bag, and the theme was "Girl Meets Glitter." Now I love glitter, so I'm already in love with this concept and I have a good feeling about this Glam Bag. Personally I think this is the best make up bag I've gotten from ipsy, it's cute and glittery and it's actually from Forever 21. What's not to love so far?

The first item I got in my Glam Bag was the Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Eye Base. I received the Submissive shade, which was a neutral tone with a little bit of glitter. The eye base was soft and smooth and appeared lightly on my skin. I've never used an eye base before, and now I think I'm going to start using it more often because it made my eyeliner last longer and made it brighter. It also helps eyeshadow stay on longer and not fade away throughout the day.

The next item I got was the J. Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint. I received the Red Potion shade, which was a red/wine color. I absolutely loved this color but the product itself is extremely messy and runny. However the thing I liked best about the lip stain was that it stayed on my lips for a good amount of time. The only time it would fade was when I drank something. The lip stain works really well when you wear lip gloss over it.

Then there is the Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray. I don't use hairspray very often because my hair is naturally straight but on the rare occasion when I want to attempt to curl my hair, hairspray is necessary. What I really liked about this hairspray is that it wasn't sticky like other hairsprays I've tried and it actually smelled really good. It also added volume to my hair and made it fuller than normal.

Next there is the Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil and I received the Ultra Orchid shade. I did not like this eyeliner at all. First off, I disliked the color because it was a glitter purple shade and I know personally I'll hardly ever wear it. I went through the crazy color eyeliner phase during high school and my makeup taste has matured within the past eight years, I prefer normal neutral tones. Also the main thing that bothered me with this eyeliner is that it seems very cheap, right after I applied it to one eye, it fell apart and crumbled and I had to resharpen it. It also does not dry fast at all and smears very easily.

And lastly in the November Glam Bag, we have the TEMPTU S/B Highlighter. In my October Glam Bag, I received the Doll10 Highlighter and fell in love with it so when I saw I had another highlighter I got really excited. The TEMPTU Highlighter is not as good as the Doll10 one, but it's still not bad. I love how ipsy included on the item page tips and instructions on how to use the product. I used the highlighter on my nose and cheeks and it made them really soft. The only con about this highlighter is that is really runny.
My look using all the products in the November Glam Bag

If I had to rank my November Glam Bag I'd give it 2.5/5 stars. I was a little disappointed with this Glam Bag. But now let's see if the December Glam Bag did better. The December Glam Bag theme was "Thinking Of You," which was perfect for the holiday season.

The first item I got was the Beauty Without Cruelty A.H.A. 3% Facial Cleanser. As a vegetarian and animal lover, I love that this cleanser is vegan friendly and cruelty free. However there's nothing memorable about this cleanser, it didn't do anything special for my face. But it did feel nice on my skin but that's basically it.

Next we have CAILYN Cosmetics Just Mineral Eye Polish in the Orchid shade. In my first Glam Bag I received a CAILYN lip gloss that I loved and now I've received an eye polish. I'm in love with all these CAILYN products. The eye polish is amazing, I love the color, it's a nice neutral glitter tone. I used a light cream eye crayon and then put the eye polish on and it lasted for a long time. I love how the eye polish has an applicator that comes with it. This product is amazing and easy to use and I just love it.

Now we have the NYX Cosmetics Butter Lip Balm and I received the Marshmallow shade. I already love NYX, I use their lipsticks all the time, they're one of my favorite makeup brands, so I was excited to receive the lip balm. This lip balm is cruelty free and that is amazing! The lip balm is very soft and feels great on my lips. The only thing I didn't like about this lip balm was the color, I'm not a huge fan of light brown color, I would much rather have a pink or red color.

The next item in my Glam Bag was the Sexy Hair 450° Blow Out Heat Defense Blow Dry Spray Mini. I've used Sexy Hair before for styling spray but I've never used their heat defense spray. It was okay, it didn't really help cut down the drying time with my hair but it did make my hair a little softer.

And last but definitely not least, we have the tarte deluxe lights, camera, lashes™ 4-in-1 mascara. I love tarte, they're one of my favorite brands, this mascara was perfect! I only had to apply it two or three times and I had longer lashes just like that. It also made my lashes very full. I think I have a new favorite mascara.
My look using all the products in the December Glam Bag

Overall I'd give my December Glam Bag 3.5/5 stars. A better improvement from the November Glam Bag. I can't wait to see what January has in store! As always feel free to join me on ipsy by clicking here! Also if you're already on ipsy feel free to connect with me! Thanks for reading and until next time, which I promise will be soon!
