Getting Ready for the New Year

by , in
Can you believe we are already on Day 24 of Blogmas? And that tomorrow is Christmas? As Blogmas and the holidays start wrapping up, it's time to start thinking about the New Year. One of the best things about the New Year is the fact that it is a fresh start. New Year, new you, am I right?

Now it's easy to say all this but it can be rather difficult to actually follow through on making plans for the upcoming year. What are you supposed to even do? Get a new haircut? Try a new style? Clean everything and anything? If you have no idea where to start, follow these steps and tips to help you be get ready for the upcoming year.

Step One: Reflect On The Past Year

In order to get ready for the New Year the best first step to take is to take a moment to reflect. What went great this year? What didn't go so well? Taking the time to pause and really think about what you could do better is a great way to start thinking about what resolutions you want to make.

Step Two: Make Your Resolutions/Goals

The most popular thing to do for the New Year is to make resolutions, this tradition is as old as time itself. New Years Resolutions have such a negative connotation. In a recent study, it was discovered that not many people actually follow through. So this year, make goals instead. When making a goal, make sure it is realistic and attainable. Write them down, so you don't forget and you can reference them throughout the year.

Step Three: Get Organized

The best way to prepare for the New Year and accomplish your goals is to get organized. Invest in a planner! This year, I purchased a Passion Planner for my 2019 Planner. The Passion Planner's whole purpose is to help you accomplish your goals. If you need an aid like that invest in one, there are so many different types of planners out there. Or why not make your own! Use a system that works best for you. Having a planner will help you keep you organized. Also, why not organize your space? Organize your desk, your room, and anything else that is cluttered. Having an organized space will help you feel more so much better and ready to take on the New Year!

Step Four: Make A Timeline

The best way to accomplish any goal is to set a deadline. Give yourself a reasonable amount of time, Rome was not built in a day. Think about how long it will take to achieve the goal and decide on a realistic finish date. After making a deadline, make a timeline of what you need to do each day to accomplish your goal. Having this all figured out will only make accomplishing your goal even easier. Friendly reminder it takes 30 days to start a new habit. Creating a routine will help you!

Step Five: Declutter

Throughout the year you probably accumulated a lot of new things and stopped using some old things. Take this time at the end of the year to go through all your things and declutter. Go through your closet, your room, your pantry, your refrigerator, and etc! Take a bag, fill it with things you no longer need or enjoy and either donate it or recycle it. Once you've gone through all your things your space will look more organized and you will feel lighter.

Step Six: Remember to Relax

One thing humans are great at is getting stressed out. If you're the type of person who is always stressed throughout the year, RELAX! Being stressed is not a good feeling and it is not good for your body. Take some time to do things for you, do things that make you happy. Life isn't a competition, just take each day at your own pace. As long as you finish the race you're still a winner.

Starting a new year can be overwhelming, especially if you're not ready for it. But think of it like this, you have a fresh start. You have a chance to make this year better than the last one. So get out there and let's crush 2019! Until tomorrow.

Tracking Santa on Christmas Eve

by , in
Merry Christmas Eve everyone! We all have our Christmas Eve traditions and activities, so today I'm going to share one of my favorite traditions: tracking Santa.

For all you naughty nuggets out there who will brush this off because "Santa doesn't exist." Well you know what, maybe YOU don't exist. Maybe this is because I've always been a big believer in Santa, and I always will be. Anyways back to tracking Santa.

Every year on Christmas Eve, NORAD tracks Santa while he makes his yearly journey on their website. To follow along click here. But NORAD didn't always track Santa, in fact this whole thing occurred due to a typo, according to an interesting article from CNN.

According to CNN, 60 years ago, a Sears in Colorado Springs ran an ad for their Santa hotline. Except the phone number was a misprint, and it listed the number for the Continental Air Defense Command center (which would eventually become NORAD) instead. So children kept calling and asking to speak to Santa. But instead of telling the children they dialed the wrong number one colonel got the idea to tell the children he wasn't Santa, but he would track him on the radar. And thus a tradition was born!

Of course you can still call the hotline, 1-877-I-NORAD (446-6723,) but the most popular thing to do is just track him on the website and watch Santa fly in real time. If you go to NORAD's website, a 3D view of where Santa's current location will automatically appear. At the top of the screen, you can see his last location, where he’s headed next and the number of gifts that have been delivered (approximately.) You can also zoom in and out and all around to see where Santa has already been.

NORAD also has a Santa Cam which includes video footage of Santa's journey! But good luck getting it to work, I've been wanting to watch these videos for the last 20 minutes. But NORAD also has a Youtube channel, although the videos aren't currently up they'll be up eventually.

When I was growing up, tracking Santa was my favorite part of Christmas Eve. I'd probably ask my mom every five minutes where Santa was and where was he headed next. I'd plan my bed time around his location, you know, to make sure I went to bed before Santa made it to my house. To this day I still track him. He currently is on his way to Greenland, just so you know. And if/when I have future spawns of mine own, I'll share this tradition with them.

So what are you waiting for?! Let's track Santa all night long! And have a merry Christmas Eve. Until tomorrow.

Attraction: More Than Something Physical

by , in
We all have ideas of what attracts us when it comes to our partners. Physical characteristics are almost always the first thought of when we see someone we like. Is it their hair? Body? Eyes? Smile?

And there's always someone out there who claims they have a "type." We all know that one person who says they are only attracted to someone with blonde hair, blue eyes and rock hard abs.

We focus so much on our outer appearance, especially when it comes to dating. We always want to look our best for our partner. Guys will obsess over their hair and want to dress to impress. While ladies will primp and groom every inch of themselves. We want our partner to be attracted to us, of course. And of course we want to feel attractive as well, which is most likely why we get all dolled up.

While physical attraction is important in some aspects of a relationship, it's not the most important. The nonphysical characteristics are way more important when it comes to having a healthy relationship. When we fall in love, we don't fall for what the person looks like, we fall in love with who they are as a human being.

Character traits like kindness, ambition, intelligence, sense of humor, loyalty and etc is what everyone should look for in a potential partner, rather than searching for a certain "type" of person to fit to the "dream partner" we have set in our mind. Because as it turns out, most of time when we're looking for someone specific, we end up meeting someone unexpected. This can be explained by only Marshall Eriksen from How I Met Your Mother.

Marshall: Robin, it's like this. Do you know how many times in my life I've gone to the freezer looking for frozen waffles and not found them?

Robin: Thousands?

Marshall: Millions. But when I go to the freezer looking for a popsicle or the remote control because Lily and I are having a fight and she's hidden it there, do you know what I find? Frozen waffles. That's how it works. You go out there looking for a paper, you're coming back with frozen waffles. And in this case, frozen waffles is a guy.

This scene from How I Met Your Mother always seems so accurate, and it is a great metaphor for when you're looking for love. Think about all the times you were looking for someone to date. Most of the time it doesn't end well. But once you get used to the idea of being with yourself, that's when you find someone amazing.

When I first met my boyfriend, Andrew, I wasn't looking for a boyfriend. I was just trying to make it through my last year at university. I was focused on my studies and my sorority, and just mainly focused on me. But once we met, we started as friends and then we started to get to know each other and fall in love. Look at us now, we're in a long distance relationship that's been going on for a year and a half.

Obviously I thought he was cute, but what I liked most about him was his personality. He was funny, sweet and smart. Those three things were what made him so attractive. It wasn't his blonde hair or blue eyes (even though those are wonderful), it was who he was on the inside that made me fall in love with him.

If we judge based solely on what someone looks like, we could miss out on someone truly amazing. We could even miss out on our soulmate. Step out of your comfort zone when it comes to dating, if you meet an amazing person you get along with really well and sparks start to fly, take a chance! It might be the best decision you make. Until next time.
