Tyler Skaggs to the DL, Angels take on the Athletics in a Three Game Series

Today, Angels' pitcher Tyler Skaggs was placed on the disabled list (DL) due to tightness in his right hamstring. Could this be part of the reason why he has lost his last three starts?

Manager Mike Scioscia told Fox Sports that Skaggs felt soreness in his hamstring after his last start Wednesday against the Houston Astros. Placing Skaggs on the DL is an act of precaution and it should only be for two weeks. A hurt hamstring can be a tricky thing... After all, a strained hamstring was the reason why former Angel and current Cardinal Peter Bourjos was out almost all of last season.

With Skaggs going on the DL that means one pitcher has to come up from Triple A Salt Lake to take his place. Who is it going to be? Well Hector Santiago of course. Santiago was a starting pitcher in the beginning of the season. When he couldn't produce a win, he was demoted to the bullpen, and when that didn't work out he was sent down to Salt Lake to make room for Kole Calhoun when he came off the DL last month. Santiago will take Skaggs place this Tuesday night.

Santiago now has the chance to redeem himself this series against the Oakland Athletics. Oakland is currently number one in the AL West with 39 wins and 24 loses. The Angels are currently in second place with 34 wins and 28 loses, while Seattle is close behind with 34 wins and 29 loses. With such a tight race, the Angels need to win the series against Oakland to secure their spot and push forward towards first place.

Garret Richards and the Angels will take on Jesse Chavez and the Athletics tonight at Angel Stadium. Hopefully the Angels' winning streak will continue on, after sweeping the Chicago White Sox in a three game series.

Let's go Angels!
