Simple Date Ideas For The Holiday Season

by , in
December is one of the most romantic months out there. Sure, February gets a lot of the romance credit because of Valentine's Day but think about it, Christmas and holiday romances are a thing. There have been so many movies made about winter romances. Winter brings colder weather and longer nights, which leads to more time for snuggling with your loved one.

Now, sometimes the holiday season isn't always as warm and fuzzy like the romantic comedies always display. Sure we all get busy during this time of the year, but it is really important to make time for the ones you love. Here are some fun date ideas to have with your significant other this holiday season!

Walk Around and Look at Holiday Lights. Many neighborhoods go all out on their holiday decorations, so why not take the time to go admire their work with your loved one? You can explore your local area or go somewhere new! Play some holiday music on the way to your destination and bring some hot chocolate or apple cider to enhance the experience.

Have a Snow Day. When we think of winter, all snow activities come to mind. So if you're lucky enough to live in an area where you can experience snow take advantage of it! Build a snowman, go sledding, have a snowball fight or even make snow angels! All of these activities can be super fun to do with your partner.

Attend a Christmas Concert or Play. No matter where you are you can always find a local Christmas concert during this time of the year. Some of the most popular things to see are A Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker. If you're on a tight budget and can't afford tickets to a fancy concert or play, check to see if any nearby schools are putting on any holiday shows.

See the Zoo Lights. Most major zoos all around the United States have been participating in this ever popular phenomenon. The zoos decorate with dazzling light displays, festive decor, and holiday music all around the property. Some even offer special holiday exhibits!

Go to a Theme Park. Theme parks go all out during the holidays! From festive decorations and food to holiday themed rides, this could be a fun adventure with your significant other. The only downside is that this option can be a bit pricey.

Ice Skating. This is the most classic holiday season date out there. Ice Skating dates are a staple in holiday romance movies. This very active activity can be fun to do with a partner. Plus you'll have someone to help keep you balanced the entire time.

Enjoy a Holiday Beverage Together. Coffee dates are so underrated! There's nothing more intimate than grabbing a beverage at a coffee shop and sitting and chatting with someone. So many coffee shops have holiday beverages out during this time of the year. Why not spend an afternoon with your loved one drinking some tasty holiday beverages and have some great conversations. If you can't sit for long or want to be active, take your cups to go and go for a walk.

Go Christmas Shopping Together. While this sounds like a terrible idea, this might be the most practical date you and your significant other can do this holiday season. Let's face it, Christmas shopping is horrible. So why not make the most of it and make it a date too? You both have to do some shopping this holiday season, so why not do it together? Plus you can enjoy holiday decorations at the shopping centers and malls and maybe grab a bite to eat after!

Attend a Tree Lighting. Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies have become more and more popular every year. For some cities, it's their main event during the holiday season and they go all out. If a tree lighting ceremony is going on near you, why not take your special someone and make it a romantic night out.

Watch a Holiday Movie. Curling up on a couch and watching a holiday movie with your loved one is a simple and easy date to do during this time of the year. The only downside is that it may not feel like a date, it might be something you do every night. Some movie theaters will play classic and favorite holiday movies throughout this time of the year. So if watching a holiday movie on the big screen sounds perfect for you, check out what your local movie theater is offering this holiday season!

Volunteer. If you and your partner love to give back to your community why not spend the holiday season volunteering together? It can be something as simple as collecting canned goods for a food bank or putting together gifts for organizations like Toys For Tots. If you and your partner feel like doing more, volunteer your time and spend the day at a place like a homeless shelter or senior center. Giving back while spending time with your partner will make you both feel great!

Now these ideas are not limited to couples only. Spending time with friends is also important, and any of these dates can be a great activity for some best friend quality time. What is important to remember is to make time for the people you care about in your life. Now go enjoy yourself and spend some time with the ones you care about! Until tomorrow.

Surviving Holiday Hangovers

by , in
During this time of the year a lot of people tend to indulge, whether that is with food, sweets, or alcoholic beverages. Since this time of this year is a time for celebration, it's not uncommon to get a little crazy and over indulge. The holiday season is all about having a good time and celebrating with your friends and family so it's not uncommon to overindulge in some adult beverages. And when that happens it leads to the ever classic hangover.

For those of you who have never experienced a hangover, first of all you're so lucky. Second of all, keep doing what you're doing. A hangover is literally the worst thing in the world, and the most common consequence of drinking too much alcohol in one period of time. Now what classifies as a hangover? Well it can be as little as feeling tired and sluggish next day or even as big as feeling nauseous and even vomiting. Every person has a different tolerance level and is bound to have different reactions. But nevertheless here are some tips and remedies for surviving your hangover.

Stay Hydrated. After a night of binge drinking, your body is definitely dehydrated. Treat a hangover like a cold, drink lots of fluids and keep your body hydrated. While you rehydrate, it will flush out any impurities that are left in your body. My go to drink is either a water, a Sprite or a ginger ale. Sometimes it may not be the healthiest option, but it's just a great pick me up and treat for the soul.

Eat Something Light. When you're dealing with a hangover sometimes the last thing you want to do is eat anything, especially if you're feeling nauseated. But in order to feel better, you're going to have to eat something eventually. Having something light like bread, crackers, or even soup. You want anything that will be easy on your stomach.

SLEEP! The best thing to do for a hangover is just to sleep it off. Rest will literally be your best friend. Taking multiple naps and even just resting throughout the day will give your body time to recharge, which is really what it needs to do.

Get Some Fresh Air. Whenever I experience a hangover, the last thing I want to do is any form of exercise let alone moving around. BUT, if you get your blood flowing and heart pumping you will start to feel a little better. Taking a walk outside in the fresh air or even just sitting outside for a little bit will do wonders.

Take A Shower or Bath. Sometimes your body just needs a little bit of TLC. Take a nice warm shower or bath so you can relax your muscles. Take the time to truly pamper yourself, use a bath bomb or face mask so you can truly relax. It may seem like freshening up really won't really make a huge difference but little things like that will really help ease the hangover pain.

Avoid Taking Pills. If you have a major headache that feels like a jackhammer is pounding in your skull, it may be tempting to take a pain reliever. However, some pain medicines are dangerous to mix after consuming alcohol since it can heighten some risky side effects. Instead, take a warm wash cloth to your head and rest with your eyes closed. If the pain is truly terrible, avoid taking a tylenol and take some kind of ibuprofen instead.

Unfortunately there is no magical pill you can take to cure or prevent a hangover. However, someone should really start working on that. Whatever your hangover ailment may be, there will always be a way to treat it to make it less sufferable for you. As long as you follow these tips, your hangover pains will not be so painful.

Enjoy this holiday season, take all the time you want and need to celebrate with your loved ones. End this year with a bang, and don't be afraid to indulge a little.

Until tomorrow.

An Introduction to Sephora Play!

by , in
Today there is so much competition when it comes to beauty subscription boxes. Before there were mainly two competitors: The Trendsetter, Birchbox and The Wannabe, ipsy. But now there's a new opponent in this competition. Let me introduce you to Play! by Sephora.

Just like ipsy and Birchbox, Sephora's Play! box includes five skin care, makeup, or hair care samples plus a bonus fragrance sample all for $10 a month. All the samples come in a cute draw string collectible bag that goes with each month’s theme.

Now for those of you that are wondering if I left ipsy because I got off the waitlist for Sephora's play box, that is 100% correct. Once Sephora announced they were creating their own beauty subscription service, I was fully committed. Unlike ipsy, Sephora gives me samples of the brands I love and want to try. By some chance I don't know the brand, I already trust it because it is backed by Sephora. When I would receive an unknown brand from ipsy I was always hesitant to try it, especially if they did not have their own website and were only sold on Amazon.

Something that Play! offers that the other subscription services do not offer is the Play! Pass. With the Play! Pass you can redeem it in store for 50 bonus Beauty Insider points when you make a purchase and it also includes a free one on one tutorial with one of Sephora's Beauty Experts. The passes do expire after 30 days, it is normally good until the end of the following month. I have yet to use the Play! Pass to redeem my one on one tutorial, but I plan on using that sometime in the future!
Also in the Play! box you will find the Play! Book. It includes tips, tricks, how-tos, and beauty advice for the products in the box. The Play! Book introduces you to each product and helps you get the most out of them.

Let's get down to this Play! Box for November 2016. The theme was "Best In Glow" so all products were focused on radiating your beauty. What all these products have in common is that they will enhance your look with a natural shine. Even the little draw string bag came with a cute little design that showed off a cartoon woman getting ready to pamper herself to a spa day.

Now let's get to the good stuff! Inside this Play! Box were the following products:

  • Cover FX Illuminating Primer
  • Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Pin Up Pink
  • Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold
  • Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
  • Glamglow Thirstymud™ Hydrating Treatment
  • Maison Margiela ’Replica’ Lipstick On
The Cover FX Illuminating Primer is a glow inducing and silicone free primer that does indeed give your skin a nice glow. However if you use a too much primer in one setting it can make your face look a little oily, so it is important to remember that a little goes a long way. This primer is not irritable at all so it is good for sensitive skin.

I'm not a huge lip gloss fan but when it comes to subscription boxes, I can't escape lip glosses. The Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Pin Up Pink is a sheer gloss that comes in a hot pink tint. Since it is very sheer, you only get little bit of color. But it does add a nice shine to your lips.

The best item in this Play! Box had to be the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold, hands down. The rose gold shade was gorgeous and added a strong shimmer to your eyes. What's so great about this eye crayon is that it glides on so smoothly and it lasts all day.

One of the most needed products for the winter time is moisturizer. So when I saw the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet in the Play! Box, I was really excited to try it out. This moisturizer is a light gel cream that hydrates and softens your skin. Once you apply the cream to your face it makes your skin feel smooth and strong. This moisturizer is really gentle and did not cause any irritation, so it's a thumbs up for those of you with sensitive skin!

The Glamglow Thirstymud™ Hydrating Treatment was the most high end beauty product, well besides the perfume sample. The mask itself is amazing, it smells really good and it really soothes your skin. Plus it will absorb right into your skin, so there is really no need to rinse off after. It makes a great overnight mask. The only downside of this product is the price, the full size version of the product is $69 and you only receive 1.7 oz. I will definitely be cherishing this sample.

Lastly but certainly not least, there is the perfume sample, Maison Margiela ’Replica’ Lipstick On. Getting a perfume sample is something I really love about the Sephora Play! Box. Trying out new perfumes is always fun! The Maison Margiela ’Replica’ Lipstick On is a sophisticated floral scent that smells really good.

For my first Sephora Play! box, I was really impressed. I received a lot of brands that I like and some that I really have been dying to try! So far, Play! has made a lasting impression on me and I would give this box 4 out of 5 stars. I can't wait to see what else Play! has in store!

Until tomorrow.

Nutella Hot Chocolate Recipe

by , in
Hot chocolate, it's the perfect beverage to have on a chilly day. What could possibly be better than snuggling on the couch with a fuzzy blanket and sharing a cup of hot chocolate with your significant other. Talk about winter goals, am I right?

So today, I'm not going to share anything necessarily Christmas related. This is because today is Hanukkah. So to all those celebrating today, Happy Hanukkah!

Instead, I'm going to share my favorite hot chocolate recipe: NUTELLA HOT CHOCOLATE! How magical does that sound?! The answer is very, very magical.

And the best thing about this recipe? You only need three ingredients. Well two, but three if you want to be fancy. All you need is: milk, nutella, and whipped cream. Obviously you don't need the whipped cream, but it makes it look super cute and taste extra yummy.

First, turn on the stove and grab a pot (duh). Then pour one cup of milk into your pot and let the milk heat up. There's no specific amount of time for heating it up. Just make sure your milk doesn't boil and make your milk as hot as you want. For example, I don't like scalding hot chocolate, so mine is never too hot. Plus who likes a burnt tongue? No one!

Next you'll want to add the nutella! Now I did two tablespoons, and it came out a nice dark brown color and it was super sweet. But sometimes I'll just do two spoonfuls and it's a little bit lighter in color and taste. I say, add as much or as little as you want! Make it as sweet as possible or go light on the sweetness. Follow your gut and tastebuds!

Once you add however much nutella as you want, mix it around until it is nice and frothy. Sometimes you'll have a little nutella residue but is that really such a bad thing? When your hot chocolate is all done, pour it into your mug or cup. Make sure you turn off the stove, because burning down your house during the holidays would be a major bummer. And then if you want, add some whipped cream on top! It adds a little extra sweetness and adds some extra cuteness to it too!

And there you have it! Nutella hot chocolate, something so delicious and so simple at the same time! Who would have thought? Hope you enjoy it! Until tomorrow.

What Am I Afraid Of?

by , in
This is Fear, you may know him from Disney/Pixar's new film Inside Out. Fear is one of the many emotions in Riley's head. But Riley isn't the only one who experiences fear, we all do. The reason why I bring up Inside Out is because I think this movie did a great job of showing us how our emotions work and they brought them to life in an amazing way. If you have not seen Inside Out yet, I highly recommend that you do because it is pure genius and it will give you a new outlook on your emotions.

The topic for today, is what I am afraid of. Fear is a crazy thing. Sometimes fear can be so strong, it keeps you from living your life happily. Other times, fear can help save your life. The purpose of the emotion, fear, is to protect us and look out for potential danger. Sometimes fear can even be the dominant emotion, but from what I learned in Inside Out, it's that there should never be one dominant emotion, instead all emotions should work together as a team to keep us fully functioning.

As humans, we all get scared and we all certainly have fears. There are thousands of phobias out there, from arachnophobia (the fear of spiders) to zoophobia (the fear of animals). Everyone has something they are afraid of, but fear doesn't make you weak. Every time you face a fear, you get a little bit stronger. And honestly, if you're body is telling you something is wrong or scary, there's 99% it's for a good reason.

So here's the part where I get personal and I list several of my fears:

  • Bugs, except like butterflies, lady bugs, rollie pollies, you know cute bugs
  • Snakes, reptiles, rodents. Not a fan at all
  • Public speaking, it never ends well
  • Needles and blood, this one is serious, this one makes me light headed
  • The dark, not a fan, cant't even sleep in it. Forever leaving my TV on
  • Fire, something about it just scares me. I hate matches and lighters but controlled fires like in a fire place or fire pit are always okay
  • Wasps and bees, simply because I don't want to get stung
I'm going to stop there because that's all I can think of. Now you all know how to scare me so that's cool. Thanks for reading and until next time!
